David Lynch, the filmmaker celebrated for his uniquely dark vision in such movies as “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive” and the TV series “Twin Peaks,” has died just days before his 79th birthday.

His family announced the death in a Facebook post on Thursday. The cause of death and location was not immediately available, but Lynch had been public about his emphysema.

So sad. Hope all the Lynch fans are doing well. We lost a true artist today.

Blue Velvet was the reason I started paying more attention to movies. One of the most fantastic directors we will ever have.

Directed Sherilyn Fenn in Twin Peaks, who was in Fatal Instinct with Bob Uecker, who also passed today. That’s less degrees than Kevin Bacon.

I got really bored with Twin Peaks at one point. Just felt like the magic was gone and it went stale. But I stuck with it, and the magic came back in a big way. After a little research, turns out my boredom exactly coincided with the period when Lynch was gone working on something else.

Shine on, you crazy diamond. The world is a bit less wonderful and strange with your passing.

Season 2, episodes 9 to the last two or so, IIRC.

The magic was definitely gone, but if you know ahead of time that patch kinda has its charm as a mid season spin off.

On this unfortunate day sales of cherry pie and piping hot coffee will both spike, in twin peaks of sadness.

Hits me pretty hard TBH. No other celebrity/artist death has like this for me.

The superior Dune IMHO. Yes I know it's extremely flawed. I don't care.
