What would be your take on someone that went to vegan communities for the sole purpose to just downvote all the comments?
Would that be bannable?
This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
Some acronyms you might see.

Happened a while ago, people went mad: https://feddit.uk/post/17377857
Sure, but is that behavior you approve of?
I don't know. For me the biggest takeaway about the vegan drama was the change in LW Terms of Service, which mean that carnivore could also not be hosted on LW, as it could be dangerous for people the same way the vegan diet it.
I feel like LW wanted to support Rooki in the decision, so they had to come up with this new rule, but they should probably have considered just removing Rooki as an admin, even temporarily, and let the rules as they are.
I just had a look at [email protected] now, it the first pinned post is about research papers showing that vegan diet is healthy for humans to comply with the rules.
I saw your post about asking to mod [email protected], are you going to lock it down and redirect to [email protected] ?
Hrmm, I'll make a post in fedigrow to talk about my ideas on moderation, Short version here - Only negative participation is bad for lemmy.
WRT [email protected], I don't have a plan, I saw it was unmoderated, and people had been talking about ketones 4 months ago and had a really bad experience from lemmy users when they just wanted help with their medical condition - so at the very least it needs a active moderator. I might make sense for one to be casual talk, and the other to be science/papers/etc. not sure, depends if I get granted moderator access and how it fits with their diet policy.

Sure, looking forward to it!

Makes sense!
YDI, if you believe a community or instance doesn't have a legitimate right to exist because it's dangerous you need to report the dangerous content instead of simply downvoting them to suppress them. Also mass downvoting whole communities or users does count as an act of vote manipulation or abuse.
So to recap, you've not avoided reporting content you believe to be dangerous, but also have engaged in abusive voting behaviors. Voting patterns that many instances (not just communities) would indeed ban someone for.
Draconic kind of hit the nail on the head with this one. Going into a community you don’t like and mass downvoting everything isn’t super awesome, and there’s no rule against the moderator of that community banning you for it.
This is one of those situations where the best thing for you to do is disengage
Thank you for clarifying!
Sunaurus stepped down, the main admin is now @[email protected]
Ah thank you for pointing that out, I'll make sure to CC them instead next time.
Mods are bored, looking for extra work.
But mass downvoting is a threat actor behavior tbh
I do wonder if they do the same to people who mass up vote... Hmmm
I mean I get it’s annoying. I also think “carnivore diet” is just a dumb grift like “raw milk” or whatever. But I don’t think you have a right to complain here. Someone created a community for people following this diet, it’s obvious they will ban anyone like you who is vocally opposed to the diet.
YDI.
We (Lemmy users in general) have an idiotic tendency to take matters into our own hands, instead of letting the people in charge handle it, even when the later would be better for everyone. And that's exactly what you did.
If you believe that a community promotes harmful content, report it to the instance admins. Make sure to back up your claim with studies and the likes. Don't simply blanket downvote everything in it, otherwise you're creating a precedent for other people to do the same with other communities.
YDI. report dangerous content (which i agree this is) to admins for moderation or defederation.
but blanket downvote trolling is a real issue that any community mods should be allowed to address.
As stupid as this is, it's not up to you what is a "dangerous diet" and going to an entire community you disagree with just to downvote everything is petty and childish. Just block it instead.
YDI
Yeah nah you're in the wrong here. Report to admins, block the community and move on.
Do I see you following people around replying to unrelated threads to continue an argument from elsewhere? Not cool
YDI.
blanket down voting every post and comment in a community
If true, this explains it all right there, regardless of the underlying issues (I mean regardless of ethics of right and wrong etc.). You could just leave the community if you don't like the content, perhaps making your own, or make a respectful post outlining your reasoning to try to convince people, etc. But acting like a toxic asshole doesn't seem like it's helpful to anyone?
Again, if true.
I blocked that sub as soon as I saw it in /everything.
It smelled like a troll meeting area (acrid sugared vinegar sweats from their 'sauces').
