Can't find it anymore, but I remember someone did a DNS analysis and they are even pinging McAfee servers, before you open any apps.
Windows sucks but that article was click bait bullshit and was due to the laptop manufacturer bloat ware.
Pro tip: You can hit space tab space tab... to quickly cycle through them all.
I will say though, it is mighty refreshing to go through a Linux installer now.

How it feels to install windows in 2023 is to drop to a hidden shell and run some commands to create a local account instead of a Microsoft account to log into your computer. Fuckin disgusting.
Not just installing. When updating, sometimes it tries to reset the options and change my default browser to edge.

And then finding your way around the forced windows account. ANNOYING
Use [email protected] as the account name, anything as the password. It will say "whoopsie, there was an error" and then you can create a local account.

Windows will display a "Let's connect you to a network" or similar screen. The upcoming Windows 11 version 22H2 does not allow you to skip this anymore to create a local account.

I don't know about these workarounds but I remember Win10 has something like "Create for another person" then "I don't have their info" and it will just let you create a local acocunt. I don't know about 11 tho

If you don’t add a WiFi network and don’t plug in ethernet then you can also make a local account.
don't forget the constant messages to use Edge as your default browser! blegh!

Same. Was a windows user all my life. Tried dabbling with Linux a few times, but the shit microsofts doing now is what drove me to linux.
Got several family members on it too, They do nothing but webbrowse so its been going stellar for them.

I use Linux nowadays, but I still have dual boot cause of some games. I use LTSB debloated with stopped updates and telemetry.

I installed it in VirtualBox because I wanted to try if a neovim plugin worked with it.
The most awful experience ever. It's so bad it's tragic, and screams surveillance late stage capitalism. If people don't notice that, it's because they have slowly become used to it under the windows regime.
I wish Windows didn't spy on you in the bathroom. But this helps:
@Steamymoomilk recently had to do a clean win 11 install. Spent a day trying to get the Intel RST driver loaded just to begin install. After trying various sources including the recovery media from manufacturer had to take it to a few repair centers(many claimed bad SSD even though I explained what driver was needed) to just install the OS it came with.
Same laptop have installed a half dozen linux distros with no such issue.
That's the monolithic for you, has drivers for basically everything minus NVIDIA tho.
Thats why i use IPXE and a sysprepped image when i do need windows. Or i got to install windows for friends and familie
I think the day I have to reinstall Windows on my Desktop will be the day I'll replace it with Linux. Already use it on server and laptop but stuck with Windows for gaming. Anyone know if SteamVR works on Linux?
It works with the valve index and I think the vice pro. I have the cosmos which doesn’t work… point being google your headset there will probably be some detailed advice for it!
I got it to launch but I only got about 15 FPS.
So it is at least possible. My PC is pretty outdated so it might work for you if you have a good graphics card with good drivers
No one should feel pain of installing Windows, no one deserves that
I do it almost weekly for my job. I need to improve my Unix skills and become a Linux sysadmin
You can totally automate the Windows install process and configuration. Not even Windows sysadmins should have to be dealing with it manually.
We still use golden images, so whenever we refresh that I need to install windows on a VM. We still do our servers manually
