If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

We're at the point of selecting our banner winners!

Here is your updated bracket and voting stats.

Some of the divisions are really getting heated and the difficulty for you guys has stepped up.

As always, I'm looking forward to seeing who your favorites will be!

Burrow and Crested fans have a lot of voting potential to either direct for or against some of the remaining owls.

Snowy vs Barn is a tough match up. Either of these birds would have backed themselves to go to the final with a good chance to win.

I'm happy that at least half the final 4 will be different than last year's, potentially all 4. I had concern the same handful would win year after year, but thankfully that isn't the case.

I don't mind some repeating since some are more interesting or photogenic, but it's nice to get a focus shift to other things from time to time.

Migration of some species and breeding season help what I get content of, but I also like to take your collective interests in mind too.

I've been attempting to make an effort to get more rescues from other countries, both to highlight non-English speaking rescue work and their different owl species.

If anyone can get me some names of owl rescues in other parts of the world, or even what you call an owl rescue in your language, I can see if I can get them included in my feeds.

Things like Hugo the Uhu at Falknerei Bad Marienberg, Germany I stumble on by pure luck, but if any of you can share me place names or keywords to find more diverse sources of owl news and photos, we can get some more variety so we're not 90% North American owls.

I'm going to be sad no matter how that Scopes v Spectacled turns out.

On one hand... they all win.

On the other... no. 😜

Speck wasn't doing so good last I checked in, but it's on my mind now to look for more of them.
