In Mastodon, post urls have the structure

<domain>/@<username>/<post id on your instance>

For your instance, and

<domain>/@<username>@<user instance>/<post id on origin instance>

for federated posts. Which makes it really easy to find a post even if it's not on your instance, I use an add-on called Mastodon Redirector that makes this even easier.

But on Lemmy it is just <domain>/<post id on your instance> no matter if it's a local post or not.

So if I have a post url on a different instance, say https://lemm.ee/post/49270741 how do I get to it on lemmy.world? (without just searching for it.)

pasting the url into your local lemmy/mbin search box causes the system to pull it and render it locally.

searching for it.

Searchig for the remote link using the search bar is currently the best way to do this.

Future versions of Lemmy will have better ways to handle this: https://feddit.org/post/5390705?scrollToComments=true
