God I wish Australia would do this. For a baking hot country there are so few car parks with any shade. Occasionally there will be a handful of trees that cover a quarter of every 20th car. Just enough to piss you off when inevitably yours is not that car.

The town I live in has these at my shopping centre, best place to park in summer. I wish they'd do it on the other car park as well, so we don't have to fight over the good shade.
It seems like such an obvious move to me. Giant wide open spaces
Also shade for the cars that won't need as much AC after. Win after win.
large tracts of land
You have to be a little careful with what seems "obvious". Solar roadways had some enthusiasm behind them, but they turned out to have a lot of challenges:

That being said, I can't think of any reason why this is a bad thing. It does seem really obvious with no major drawbacks
But solar roadways were idiotic the moment they were announced. And people with the background knowledge said as much. Idiots just didn't want to listed and wanked to the hype
I remember when they were announced, everyone with half a brain and not directly linked to the companies making them thought they were stupid.
Similar to the company that is super keen to put fibre optics through the UK water pipes :|
This include all existing parking lots above 1500m2 that will have to be retrofitted.
It's a great news.
Thanks Mario
And it was about fucking time !
We have so many idiotic projects destroying natural habitats to put solar panel on them while urban and periurban area are dramatically under exploited.
Now do malls and warehouses roofs too please, and then buildings above a certain height/surface.
I like the Lego model.
