I've always felt like the TOS Film / TNG design is what I think of what established the design. I felt the departures in the Kelvin and STD were too extreme.
1979 through TNG era. Doesn’t look over the top, still looks alien and fierce.
I will say that the Klingon helmets used in the first Abrams movies were cool though.
Yeah, they were cool.
The helmets bothered me. I mean they look really cool, but I remember being surprised and taken aback in the theatre. In my head, Klingons either survive a battle and are honored by their victory, or they die in battle and are honored by their death. Having a helmet, to me, undermines their whole warrior culture. Kinda seems silly now that I’m writing it out, but still, I had a strong reaction to those helmets…
Klingons don't talk about that time and why they required helmets 😉
