God fucking damn it. Fuck off with the anticheat bullshit. Fucking plague is destroying gaming. If the whiny tryhards want "cOmP3Tit1v3 int3grIteE" or whatever dumb excuse the devs pulled out their ass this time then just make RANKED mode locked behind this malware-powered prison shit. Don't ruin the game for everyone. The majority of the player base isn't whining about cheaters, and this is true of pretty much every game. It's the tryhard comp scene most affected, let them enable it to play comp. At least give us the option to play on non anticheat servers. I hate how every multiplayer game is ruining itself over this garbage.

Or just keep that shit on consoles, where their only use is gaming.

Apex was one of the titles that just worked, flawlessly. And I never faced anything that I could attribute to cheats over high skill.

Yes, there was some ALGS drama, but as a regular player, I never faced it.

FUCK EA.

Hope this was a lesson to anybody still playing their garbage.

Haven't bought an EA title in years and no regrets. It's like donating to the GOP at this point.

Edit: I mean if DJT started a gaming company that's EA.

They lost me at the release of Battlefield 3 with hundreds of bugs, many completely game breaking.

For example:

To this day, there are still times when you can fire a tank at a jet, and SEE the explosion happen and then the jet still keeps on flying even though you scored a direct hit on it with a TANK SHELL.

I say to this day because the bug was still in there when I stopped playing and they had certainly stopped working on it.

I was addicted to that garbage that Apex is. I am happy they removed Linux support.

Same, I can play it on my spare windows ssd but it's fine.

To eliminate this cheat vector, we have made the decision to prevent access to the game for Linux users. This means that Apex Legends will be unplayable immediately for those running this operating system. Playing on handhelds, such as the Steam Deck, is still possible if the user opts to install Windows.

translates to them cutting off linux support so people will be forced to use approved operating systems like Windows which will require more hardware which means more money for those companies and more intrusive anti cheat software that gives users data away

way more than just about Windows and some games

this is about locking users into approved environments with no wiggle room just like on Tron

Block EA on your steam store page!

Wouldn't be surprised if this was some garbage ploy by Microsoft/shitty developers to make Linux look bad for being unsupported to increase the spyware that microsfot peddles

You're right. This is pure FUD, and hopefully entities like the European Union see it for what it is.

They want a backdoor into everyone's computer who plays their game. What could go wrong??

I would not be one bit surprised if this is really being used for data harvesting. Anti-cheat is really just like an Android App trying to gobble up all your marketing details to sell to the highest bidder.

Friendly reminder to give your fair and honest Steam review of Apex Legends after EA's most recent changes. 😈

The game companies doing this shit will eventually incur the wrath of Gaben 👀️

Fine if you don’t want as many customers, but I understand the business model is increasingly comparable to gambling and focuses on whales.

[–] Draconic_NEO 2 points 2 weeks ago

People say companies' main purpose is to make money, when those companies do stupid shit like this it really calls into question the truthfulness of that statement. Since they're clearly losing customers and money while not gaining anything for their efforts, then they'll jusify their bullshit by saying "Market research", "predictive Revenue intelligence", "Customer satisfaction" and plenty of other buzzy corporate terms that sound smart but don't really have much meaning.

I’m just waiting for a single player game to this, I feel like disabling Linux support is the new hot trend making triple AAA games. Like I already know black ops 6 disabled Linux support or will without even googling it

It's funny how the reason is always that linux enables cheating by being open, but maybe cheaters wouldn't be aware of linux at all had all the anti-cheat companies not been talking about it being a problem for the last 3 years.
