No change from my side.

Playing Trails in the Sky: SC as my main game, made quite a headway in chapter two, should be nearing the end of it, but still couple of side quests remaining. It's still early game though, so going to take me couple of months.

Played a little bit of Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout, game has opened quite a bit, still enjoying it, but not much to say about it yet.

Dust: An Elysian Tale, turned out to be a much smaller game than I expected. I think I played 3-4 hours of it, and according to saves, I am at around 45%. Don't know how it calculates the percentage, it's possible I may end the game even before 100%, let's see.

Couple of thing I found interesting in the game. You can find either equipment or their blueprint as a loot. If you find blueprint, you need looted material to craft it. You can also buy the material, but in start shops only have 4-5 materials, so you have to first sell at least one of each material before it will start getting stocked in shops.

Another interesting thing is leveling up stats. There are 4 different stats. Attack, Defense, "Magic" and Health. And your max stat can't be more than 4 level higher than your lowest stat. So you can't just put everything in attack or defense.

My one big complaint is saves though, you can only save at specific points, and while save points are abundant, there are certain parts where you can die easily and once you do you have to load a previous save.

It's a decade old game though, so I guess this can be forgiven.

That's all from me, what about all of you? What have you been playing

I've been switching between Pokémon Legends: Arceus (I'm late to the party) and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

PL: Arceus was a bit disappointing. The concept is awesome, and when I first started playing, I thought it would be one of those games I wouldn't be able to put down. But it got boring really fast. The world feels so empty, like I'm playing a beta test for an open-world Pokémon game.

I just started SMB Wonder, and at first, it felt a bit strange because it didn't seem like a Mario game. But it grew on me quickly, and now I'm really enjoying it. The online co-op with random strangers works surprisingly well, though I wish they had explored it a bit more. I was also worried the game might be too easy, but the challenging stages showed up sooner than I expected. The Wonder Flower effect is really fun, and I'm always excited to see what it will do next.

Played more Echoes of Wisdom. I haven't done much, though. My motivation took a nosedive when I explored around the southwestern parts of Hyrule Field. The open world aspect really doesn't work for me in 2D, the area just felt too big and empty.

I'm putting the brakes on Civ 5, not because I want to, but because I have to. I finished another game today and I'm henceforth limiting myself to one game per month. I'm really just trying to win one match per civilization for now, so I'll be done with that in a few years at this rate.

So in its place, it's finally time to tackle Lightning Returns, the third game in the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy. I'm not sure what to expect. Though most points of criticism are absolutely valid, I thought the first game was much better than people say. The second one is exactly as bad as people say, though. It had some good ideas, but it just didn't feel right.

The map isn't that big in Echoes of Wisdom, but yeah, there is more to do that I initially expected.

Heh, that's how Civilization is. Good luck!

I didn't play the full 13 trilogy, but I liked the first game.

I went back to Echoes of Wisdom for this one echo I was missing:

spoilerThere's a Lynel!

I got Transformers: Galactic Trails today on the Switch, so I'm going to be checking that one out. I hopefully will be playing some co-op TMNT: Cowabunga Collection too!

I've also been playing/will be playing some other stuff on Steam.

Where is it? I saw it when going for boss, but I didn't find it.

What are you playing on Steam?

Lost forest i think the name. Go to church and talk to the guy and he will tell you about a rumor. Just follow the foot prints in the lost forest.

Ahan, cool. Would like to go back and get the echo.

I've been playing Halls of Torment as I mentioned last week. But I also set up a new partition exclusively for playing on my computer. I installed Garuda Linux, a distro built on ArchLinux for gaming.

As many others, I have a bunch of games on my Steam library which I've acquired via sales or Humble Bundles, and I've barely played them (if at all!). With this new setup, games are working great and I'm trying to check out more of them. I'm really surprised with how well non-native games work on Linux these days!

I've been playing the latest Killer Instinct, Ultra Street Fighter IV and Injustice: Gods Among Us fights every now and then.

I started a new game of Halo: Combat Evolved. I played this through years ago when I still double booted a Windows partition, and I remember having lots of fun with it. I also started Halo: Reach mostly to see how the latest entry worked on Linux (and was impressed!). I think I'm going to get proper organized and play them in chronological order if I decide to keep playing Halo. I also have the Bioshock collection, which I might also check out. And a few more I'll go through once I'm done with these! 😬

Yeah, gaming on Linux is soooo much better than what it used to! That's also why I switched from GOG to Steam (even though I wasn't actually buying games on PC then), could only fight one battle, and as someone who only used Linux, Linux support was much more important than DRM free games.

My son just made me download Injustice: Gods Among Us on PS. Had it from PS+ monthly games ages ago. Have just downloaded it, haven't even played a single match. Who do you play with mostly? I just use any random character, my son uses Swamp Thing though.

I bought Halo: MC collection a while back, but my old laptop wasn't all that great, also, you don't get Xbox achievements when playing on Linux (due to easy anti-cheat thingy), but plan to finally play it now (got a new laptop with RTX 4070!). Need to finish Trails in the Sky: SC first though. Want to play from the first game though.

GOG games I've been having a harder time making them work. At least the Mortal Kombtas on fullscreen mode, I'll eventually figure that out.

I play random characters on Injustice too. I had it on the Wii U and I think I did the whole story mode there, but it's been a while.

Let me know what you think once you play Halo. The first one at least was fun for me. I never played multiplayer though, I think that was the main thing back in the day? I'll see how far I get on the first one before I move on to the second one...

[–] slimerancher 2 points 2 months ago

Sure. I never really had an Xbox, so want to play all their exclusives. Don't care about multiplayer though, just want to play the campaigns and checkout the story.

Will let you know how I like it when I do.

Im playing octopath traveller 2 at the moment. I kinda dig it tbh. I cant be bothered to finish the first one.

[–] slimerancher 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ahan, nice. I couldn't be bothered to finish the first one either. Not sure I want to play the second one. I love the visuals, sound and the gameplay, but got tired of the narrative and the repetitiveness.

[–] 3aqn5k6ryk 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Im still a couple hours in tbh but i already like the QoL. I can speed up the battle but at most its x2.

Im on the fence between dragon dogma and octopath traveler 2 but i think ill play octopath. Idk, something about old school style rpg clicks with me and i like playing it on switch.

[–] slimerancher 1 points 2 months ago

Yeah, I like these classic style JRPGs too. Let me know how you like Octopath Traveller 2. If they have improved it enough, might be worth it to give it a try.

Playing Harvestella!

On my previous post I mentioned a lot of problems with this game, and while I still think all of those are valid criticisms the game has grown a lot on me. This is partially due to the game opening up significanty during Chapter 3, with plenty of new characters (which also means more jobs for you to experiment with), more cities, more quests, and a ton of things to do in the farm.

But the main draw of the game for me has been the the worldbuilding and the story. While the game's world is not that big, there's a lot of care in making each region feel unique and alive, I love how many sidequests are connected forming a small storyline for a specific NPC. The main plot also has some surprising twists that are keeping me hooked, plus the OST is amazing, Go Shiina did a fantastic job once again.

As play this I keep thinking of the original Nier for the PS3/360 - both are game with deep flaws, hard to recommend blindly, but that also offer a great payoff if you can get past those flaws.

[–] slimerancher 1 points 2 months ago

Nice to hear that. I like how the game looks and want to play it.

Nier is next on my list. Planning to play Nier: Replicant on PS after I am done with Dust: An Elysian Tale and Batman: Arkham Knight (going to start it after Dust). Looking forward to playing it.

Slowly carrying on with Fire Emblem Engage. It's picking up a bit and it's pretty fun now. I'm playing on the easiest settings (no permadeath and unlimited use of the time crystal to rewind when you make mistakes). I'm slightly conflicted about that now, because I did enjoy the old challenge of getting through without anyone ever dying. In Engage I'm mainly using the time crystal when I make a button press when I don't mean it or immediately seeing a better placement for a unit, but every chapter or two I have a character die and I rewind to save them (where in the past I would have restarted the chapter). On one chapter, I didn't bother rewinding and just let someone die because I knew they'd come back. It is a huge (real) time saver, but it's a very different feel from older FE games. I know I could play with harder settings, but now the option is there, I'm not sure I have the patience and time to go back to the old way. Not sure what the point of this ramble was - still a fun game, and I'm definitely going to play through to the end.

[–] slimerancher 2 points 2 months ago

Hehe, I can understand, losing a person is very frustrating for me. So knowing that they will come back can be a big relief.
