I always scratch my head at "new" sanctions. How has there not been every possible sanction already in place?

They're going after the thousands of shell companies they're using to get around prior sanctions
Yeah, I read the release.
Not this specific link/story, but some of the recent sanctions specifically target things Russia has been doing to get around prior sanctions. Such as sanctioning specific dark fleet vessels, sanctioning new entities that have been created to evade prior sanctions, and putting pressure/restrictions on banks to not just rubber stamp transfers to obvious shell companies.
I've read multiple times that this is the strategy on purpose. Somehow it is deemed to be more impactful to deliver the sanctions step by step and also keep some ammo to be able to react to the worst crimes. I don't necessarily agree with that but my understanding of these matters is also limited.
Not even close. They still get machine tools and maintenance services for them from the West, as of list I checked. Y'know, so they can keep making missiles.

Nice... But with winter approaching, Ukraine could also do with some non-military aid as well. Specifically, power generation capabilities.
I guarantee that's why it's so big.
Europe has also been providing aid very heavily of the non-military variety given they have more spare civilian capacity than military. This includes power generation and transmission to Ukraine, parts, etc.
The recent Perun video also talked about how ~50% of power generation is still online in Ukraine, due to it coming from nuclear plants. Still not enough to fully power the country, particularly if transmission is not kept online, but that is a better picture than I previously thought it was.
Reading the article sounds like weapons, nothing else mentioned.
Europe usually sends more of that stuff than the USA...
I didn't see anything specific to that in the official statement, but it could be in the confidential/internal use only docs.

Yeah, I think that is going to wait till after the election. I believe Biden is worried it would give more ammo to Trump. Hopefully we see it then. These self-imposed rules are really frustrating to watch.
