Spotted lake in Osoyoos BC, Canada. The Lake is situated in the only true desert in the country: Osoyoos BC. The lake is coloured naturally from the minerals in the area. No, you cannot get any closer.

Correction: "you cannot get any closer legally"

I've seen many people to over the fence. Not a great idea at all.

Ecological and cultural(First Nations) protection

That's a lot better then being barred by a corporate dairy farm.

The Nkโ€™mip First Nation have a desert cultural interpretation centre and walking paths in the area. You can see rattlesnakes and scorpions that they are protecting. Itโ€™s well managed ecologically.

(The website seems to be under reconstruction.)

They also have their own winery.

Well worth a visit.

This is one of those minor things that people argue about anyways, but supposedly Osoyoos isn't a "true dessert". Or at least, it isn't the only dessert because little Ashcroft is one too. It's a part of the town'sidentity as well.

The lake looks cool! Does it change much over the course of the year or does it often look spotty?
