I used to ride down on Dundas, Dupont and St Clair W from the Junction to Y&E every night between 3-6AM for work. It was amazing during warm summer nights.
Ohh yes, chill wind, no deadly laser from outerspace so no need for sunblock. Though i only ride in my residential area so no need for high lumen light, i just need to be visible by others.
Definitely depends where you live lmao, I aint doing that in a Socal city unless I wanna get robbed or attacked if I stop. Not to mention the people that drive like maniacs and race down the empty streets.
David Hasselhoff?
I like it, but I think it's dangerous because of crazy car drivers. So if I do it, I stick to small residential roads.
My experience is the opposite. The hours 3-6 feel more dangerous to me because many drivers are in a rush and very uncourteous. At night there are just way less cars on the road and in general they are much more courteous. However I generally don't ride light enough for them to suffer from very bad sleep deprivation.
Feels safer than day riding too with a 2000LM light.
You turn it down when a car approaches right?
Right?
Well my light is angled downwards hopefully it's not a problem. But I'm not sure if it's actually brighter than modern car lights.
Would you mind posting a link to your lamp on Amazon?
Make sure to buy lights that follow German StVZO regulations if you're on the road. They're not necessarily expensive. they have controlled beams with a horizontal cutoff so they don't blind people, like motor vehicle lights.
Based on the link in his other comment, it does have horizontal cutoff
Actually I got it on Aliexpress (link). There might be better priced options but I got this one because it comes with an adaptor for GoPro mounts so I could mount it under my bike computer. It's otherwise much too heavy and large to mount on handlebars.
100%, the world is better at night. I am aware where I live there are more dangers, I have had to push myself to go as fast as I could in the past to get away from some people who were out at night, but the majority of the time I have found that the night-life is the best time to go out.
“Oh no…youths.”
You call me a youth, I'm only 29, and have been biking at night since I was 19.
My city has a nice grade separated trail system that is dead quiet at night with the exception of the occasional homeless person or the time I flew around a bend to find kids setting off fireworks in the middle if the path (extreme fire danger that year too >:-( )
I have to cross a fee stroads to get from the trail back home and my destination isn't always perfectly trail adjacent, but on nice summer nights I like to ride the 25 miles into the entertainment district and back 90% of which is trail riding.
If it wasn't for my astigmatism causing me to get blinded by every headlights, yeah, probably.
I don't love bikers super bright lights that aren't designed to point primarily at the ground. Been considering bringing a mirror with me on my runs so they can see what it's like
Hell yeah. The nighttime is the right time.
I don't have a need for riding in night I can choose quite or separated roads. But I have to say there is something about it I like. Unfortunately I usually do it only when I am in rush to get to bed/somewhere where I needed to be few hours ago (because some unexpected delays on route).
One thing I've always wanted to try is a bike ride with night vision on. Idk why I just think it would be cool
Nice 👍
