What I don’t understand are the calls for Biden to step down from the NYT but no calls are made for Trump to step down.

The media is so soft on Trump, lulled by over-exposure, desensitized to his lunacy so he gets a pass too often.

If you see the corruption of our institutions, voting for gop will accelerate that. For a hope of a reversal the only option are democrats. Imperfect yes. But there’s no choice.

I hereby call on Trump to fucking kill himself in a most painful manner.

Lots of people called for Trump to step down in 2016 but I think most intelligent people have lost all faith in the Republican Party. For that to be heeded, it would have to be raised by voices within the party, and Trump’s vicious attacks against his critics make that very unlikely.

That said, yeah it should have been at least discussed after his felony conviction I think.

Trump knows what he's doing, and his base supports it. Telling him to step down now is a meaningless act.

The coverage is so asymmetric. Little is said about Trump on the headlines, so consent is manufactured that Biden bad and neutral on Trump.

We needed Biden to be much better than he was. Trump is always shit.

I think it's more that Trump behaved exactly as we're used to seeing him. He lied, he was combative, etc but nothing new there. Biden's performance was truly alarming, as in it wasn't clear if he'd even be able to finish the debate. I agree that Trump should be raked over the coals daily by the media because he's talking like early 1930's Hitler. But the level of concern over Biden's performance is warranted, and I appreciate journalists not trying to downplay this.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Biden’s debate flop was front-page news across Europe, with left- and right-leaning newspapers excoriating the president — even in France, where the country has its own elections coming up this weekend.

Biden’s showing Thursday did not make the diplomats CNN spoke to question his ability to serve as commander in chief at this moment, with many noting that he has a good team working with him.

The diplomats were not surprised by Trump’s comments on foreign policy during the debate — with one calling it the “same recipe as usual” — but they added that they felt even more concerned about his lack of commitment to Ukraine and what that might mean for European security.

Still, despite Trump’s reinforcing of longstanding issues, there was a real sense of shock and concern about Biden’s performance and what it might mean for his chances in November.

Even in France, which is facing its own surprise elections this weekend where President Emmanuel Macron’s alliance confronts a far-right challenge, newspapers took time out to lament the frailties of the man who visited the country only a few weeks ago.

Both days at the luxurious resort hotel in southern Italy’s spectacular Puglia region, Biden kept them waiting for half an hour, showing up late for no apparent reason, and even then, at times seemed slightly out of sorts.
