We have successfully destroyed the democratic processes in our own countries and enabled mass censhorship so now we must follow the steps of the CCP and interfere in your elections so that we can track down the political activists who have fled to your countries and murder them, simple.
Maybe they read about Canada genociding Indians. (/s)
But yes, our current government is behaving in a very short-sighted way, pissing off other countries for immediate benefits (trade deals, more visas, etc.). It isn't just Canada.
Money. The same reason China, Russia and the USA interfere with Canadian politics.
