I liked it, though the VA for Cyclops is not as good, and they took Rogue (with the same VA plus ~30 years) from "probably a little too southern" to straight-up "Dolly Parton lampooning herself on SNL."

Definitely captured the feel of an old Saturday Morning cartoon with just enough updates to feel fresh.

I loved it. It made me smile and it felt a little surreal to be watching a continuation of THE cartoon of my childhood.

Oh shit it's out now?!

I actually got excited at the trailer. Afraid it will suck. Willing to try though! I miss my girl pre-Live Action Rogue.

It strikes a perfect balance between nostalgia and improvement over the old show. They kind of nailed it.

So kinda like Netflix's Voltron? They really struck a good balance there too.

I missed out on the old Voltron and didn't know there was a new one. I'm not the right person to answer that question, sorry.

Dae think animation looks worse than original?

[–] Beetschnapps 8 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

It’s not “worse”. Though it is different and does feel a little too clean.

But objectively in terms of the animation quality it is def not worse than the original. Go back and check out season 1 of the fox series. Wooo man they were on a budget and it showed.

I was talking to my wife about it. She likes how it is stylized to look like the original show, but personally I don't like how digital it still looks. They did a good job keeping true to the original style, and I know technology has advanced a lot, but something seems off not to me by using cels.

It seems to "clean" to me, but I might just be an animation nerd asking for too much

Is it because it's computer generated animation? That was the vibe I got, similar to a lot of the newer anime. It looks ok but something about it throws me off.

Yeah that's the main reason. I don't want to knock it too hard since they did a better job than I thought they would, but I'm a sucker for traditional (non digital/computer) animation. Story wise I love how they are picking up from the ending and not taking it a different route so far, and all the characters are acting like how they were in the OG series. Great reboot in a landscape of cheap cash ins

I really liked that they set up the Lifedeath storyline.

I was pleasantly surprised. A very strong start for the season. I ended up starting a watch through of the original animated series

First episode for me was just meh. Definitely a recap to bring people back up to speed on things. 2nd episode went full throttle and if that’s the way they’re gonna approach the rest of the series, it’ll be a hit.

It’s so good and I feel like it picked right up from TAS. Big win imo
