Good morning! Figured I’d keep this going today. Want to make sure there’s something for folks to jump in to as Reddit continues to drive people away.

Definitely keep it going! I have learned so much from the original subreddit that I'd love to see it keep going

Yep, I guess we'll see by the end of the month how many jump ship due to this change, but I'm sure it won't be the end of decisions that turn off at least some of the user base

Hopefully a decent group of people stay here. Of course, having a smaller group is kind of nice.

It would be nice if someone technically inclined could figure out a way to automate the daily thread so no one has to remember to start one manually each day.

Have a Discord of close friends of mine I've had for 10+ years, all very smart wonderful people. While I'm definitely "the fire guy," they are all decent with money. Around September of last year a few of them were really getting nervous about putting more money in the market with all the discussion of a recession. I threw a GCal notification to see what the market was doing in a year but couldn't help but check it early...it's up like 18% since then. Don't try and time the market folks, stick to the strategy

I was just thinking of all of the people even like 3-4 months ago that were pulling back on investments. Gotta have a plan and stick to it…

It was a shock to me too, hasn't 'felt' like a 18% year and maybe it will reverse by September. Doesn't matter to me, just keep on investing, taking the emotion and mental wrangling out of it makes it much easier

That's a great reminder, be greedy when others are fearful. This time last year I ended a sabbatical to work for another year, and I don't regret it at all.

One of my favorite mantras, and the corollary of "be fearful when others are greedy" doesn't mean I stop investing, I just resist the urge to jump into the exciting "opportunities" that come up like NFTs or Crypto, just stay the course

Off to Colorado today. Staying for nearly a week. Would love to RE somewhere in the mountains; just have to convince my SO. And also potentially revise my FI # much higher if we leave MCOL…

[–] yenahmik 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fun! Where are you planning to visit in Colorado?

[–] runawaycorvid 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Denver ‘burbs. Going to a wedding in the Golden area. I’ve been there a few times before but I want to check out the Spyderco outlet during my free time.

Golden is a great area. Super close to the mountains, yet still all the benefits of living in the city. I hope you have a great time!

Milestone Wednesday (?):

I now have enough to support spending to cover my expenses from when I first moved out my parents house for my first job. Congratulations past me for finally reaching FIRE.

Of course due to lifestyle inflation and regular inflation, I still have quite a ways to go to reach enough to cover my current expenses

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Congrats! And yeah, the regular inflation is a real PITA right now.

I noticed that within the community info page, there are flowcharts for different countries. I do not know if we are adding all counties but I figured I would provide the link to the Canadian flow chart.

Ah the joys of customers having unrealistic expectations. A short snippet of an extended conversation today.

PM: We have to get this done in the next sprint

Dev team: That's not technically feasible. We need a minimum of 4-5 just for development.

PM: That's not acceptable to Customer. We have to get it done sooner than that.

Dev team: Unfortunately that's the soonest we can get it done.

PM: Customer will leave over this if we can't get it done sooner.

Dev team: Well...it's still not feasible to do it any faster.

This went on for at least an hour.

The best part is this functionality the customer is demanding has a very real chance of taking down the entire system when they start using it as intended and the powers that be still didn't tell them to eff off.
