"An open source project that let people view tweets without going to Twitter.com has shut down, as Elon Musk's changes seem to have closed off all possible ways to access the Twitter network without a user account.

Nitter provided an alternative front-end to Twitter but has been struggling for months. Nitter.net, the official Nitter instance, went down a few weeks ago."

You can still use it. Twiit checks for nitter instances that still work and redirects you.

The method of access they use is fundamentally broken now, because there's no way to get new guest account tokens. So the remaining instances will die out one-by-one as their tokens expire, since there is now no way to renew them.

Nitter itself was good at what it did, but it was still TwitX behind it. So...pretty awful overall.

Are there any self-hosted twitter front ends? Something that would still use your account credentials (or maybe shared credentials) but would cut out all of the cruft, kinda like piped for YT?

There's this app on F-droid called Squawker that now allows you to use your account

This explains why the Musk-fart sniffer spez got the idea from to shut down third party as much as possible on Reddit. Musk ought to adopt Spez as his son at this point.

I was wondering what happened. I only had an auto-redirect to nitter for when friends would send me something. I just say that the link doesn't work for me now. No real loss for me.
