Do you end up on a no-fly list from doing something like this?
Because it was a flight from Richmond to Toronto. The person likely lives in one of those two places and was released in Winnipeg. Are they now faced with the only option of bus/train/car to get home?
Then, similarly, have to do that again to get back to Winnipeg for their court date?

I hope they can't fly, because that would be some sweet consequences.

Weird story. I'm not sure what we get out of this as citizens though, especially without context. Was the kid suffering delusions? Did he have a past history of violence towards others? Did he think it would be fun to pretend to open the door as a joke? What are we supposed to be learning here? How does this apply to our lives?

It feels more like gossip than a news story.

Perhaps he wants a job at Boeing and thought normalising doors on airliners being open would look good on his CV
