The armor is full steel. I have just painted it to look worn and "experienced"

Can't strap the breastplate solo without longer straps lol.

Fun fact, the breastplate isn't small, solitary breastplates are sized like this so the wearer stoll has full range of motion. If it was any longer you wouldn't be able to bend or lean.

Jammies are also on. Couldn't be bothered to change into my trousers.

speaking of legs, I made arming points for the leg harness and they work GREAT!

This Wenzel bascinet isn't my main helm for this fit even though it would be more historically accurate to this style of armor.

My armet just isn't finished and painted yet, but that will be my main.

Also omitted is the maille skirt I have on order and the cloth layer of the armor.

Just wanted to see how everything sized up.

The medieval camera you used for the photo makes it feel really authentic!

Had to use my front facing camera with a timer and then had to crop it.

Ya gotta do, what ya gotta do :( there's better pics of me in garb on my profile. This was a test fitting to see how it all worked and how my mobility was. Hence the jammies under the armor lol.

oh interesting. thanks

edit yeah it was the title in the other post didn’t start with the OC etc tag so automod killed it

[–] ChamrsDeluxe 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Is that new? I've posted here so many times without the OC tag and never git removed before.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

I had the issue with my "dutch university" photo. Automad think she is still on reddit and wants OC tags

Frankly, and from someone who is a complete noob with anything cosplay, I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed with your passion for this. I've seen all sorts of flashy costumes, but yours is somehow more real. Keep posting! Keep adding and show us! You're fuckin' killing it!

[–] ChamrsDeluxe 3 points 10 months ago

Thank'ee kindly! I would love to someday get sponsored by one of the vendors of this stuff and do reviews and content creation for this stuff. Would love to turn this passion into a way to earn a living instead of breaking my body in a factory.

I really appreciate your kind words!

This has been my favorite Lemmy anthology thus far. In years, only real ones will know about these posts

Lol. More to come as well. Still gotta modify the surcoat to go better with my inspiration for this kit. Carian Knight from Elden Ring. I have a black surcoat I am going to modify to look like the blue surcoat on this guy.

I'm completely disinterested in all things cosplay, but I've enjoyed watching his evolution and enthusiasm.

Cool shit!

What is the cloth layer? Looks like you're already wearing the cloth underlay.

[–] ChamrsDeluxe 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Basically a surcoat and my hood that I'd normally pair with the armor.

It wasn't until the late 14th-15th century and beyond that bare armor was the fashion.

Here's my kit before I bought the breastplate and leg harness, and also the helmet I intend to wear with this kit.

I am getting a plume holder installed and then I will paint it to match!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Was the reason for the change in cloth vs bare armour just fashion, or was it functional too?

I'm aware of tabards and cloth for Brigadine armour and such, just not why

That's a really cool suit dude. Thanks for sharing

So I know it's on the site that should not be named, but there's some good info on it here

https://www.reddit.com/r/ArmsandArmor/comments/17g4pzh/why_did_knights_stop_wearing_surcoats_in_the/

[–] ChamrsDeluxe 3 points 10 months ago

Just fashion I am guessing. Knights still occaisionally had their armor painted from time to time as people still like color, but bare armor was just more in style.

[–] ChamrsDeluxe 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Oh, also what I am wearing under the breastplate is a padded textile armor called a gambeson. Adds more protection and padding. Good stuff!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Right. That's the name of the padding. I could remember it for the life of me. I was more knowledgeable about this stuff like 10 years ago. Now I deal with such tremendous amounts of information each day, that I'm lucky to remember my own name by the end of it.

[–] ChamrsDeluxe 2 points 10 months ago

Oh damn. Sounds stressful.
