Donald Trump won't make his own closing argument in his New York civil business fraud trial after his lawyers objected to the judge's insistence that the former president would stick to “relevant” matters.

The headline is incorrect. The Judge said that der Gropenfurher would have to agree to follow the law and he refused to even respond after three extensions.

Nothing was rescinded.

They asked for 3 extensions and were granted them. They asked for a 4th and it was denied. Now Trump's claiming that it's so totally unfair.

He's like a spoiled toddler. If anything isn't 100% of what he wants in that moment, he'll cry about how unfair everyone is acting towards him. If only we could put him down for timeout and a nap like we might with a toddler. Perhaps he needs a diaper change? (Not it!)

Was going to say... There's no way the judge could be so stupid as to give him a position that can cause a mistrial. That is the most obvious setup ever.

We all knew he was going to use the time to ramble incoherently about unrelated stuff so I suppose it's fine he's not being allowed to do that but at the same time I really wanted to see him shoot himself in the foot under oath.

It's better than that. If he was allowed to ramble incoherently, the judge may have been forced to declare a mistrial, or any judgement could have been overturned on appeal, citing bias.

That his lawyers agreed that he wouldn't follow decorum is the surprising thing, to me, and we should all be glad he's not allowed to make any statements.

His lawyers probably don’t want to work for him any longer than necessary. If they were smart they got paid in advance for this trial.

In 5 years I wouldn't be surprised to read about these current set of lawyers suing him for payment and him saying something like "they wanted a lot of money for being a bunch of losers. Why should I pay?" assuming he's still alive and hasn't died due to old age and cheese burgers by then.

The Trumps are kinda like the Lanisters tho

[–] linearchaos 1 points 10 months ago

He has such a backlog of previous foot shots, they can't hold him to answer for them all. Someone has to make him answer for anything, then we can watch him dance.

He never gave permission in the first place, so it wasn't rescinded. Trump asked for an exception to the rules. Judge agreed contingent upon Trump following the same sort of rules a lawyer would have to follow while they present closing arguments. Trump refused to agree to the terms. Permission was never granted.
