And this ladies and gentlemen, is why we play games at 1am and fuck up our sleep schedule

True story.
Indeed. That and not needing sleep so more free time
On the rare occasion I decide to do a group dungeon in ESO, I feel like I get a text from my husband "wanna go to the store." Every. Time.
And it's hard to explain that I can't just quit right now, it wouldn't be fair to the nice little people in my PC.
Just tank the dungeon.
No one will notice you're gone.
I've only ever been a FPS scrub, so they'd notice.
At least I'm not a healer! Everyone blames the healer!
Everyone blames the healer
... at their own peril.
I tried tanking a few times. It's hard ass work if you don't have every single mob location memorized.
Healings fun though. People actually thank you some times. But yeah I'm just DPS loser most of the time.
A few times when I first started engaging in multiplayer stuff, I forgot to unequip the Ring of the Pale Order which prevents being healed. Oopsie daisie.
I especially hate this because it's often after like 10 hours of staring at a wall doing fuck all. As soon as I start doing literally anything, all of a sudden I'm in high demand.
This hits so much.
Signed - married parent of two kids below 3 y.o.
Yeah, I'm right here with you. 2 kids under 6, and a wife who's love language is 'acts of service'. Fuck. Me.
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but the whole love language thing is total BS if you didn't already know.
I'm serious, but I did know love language is BS. There is a quantum of truth to it though. Certain people like certain things.
What is it that causes this behavior from people around us? I think we have all experienced this before, which means that people are probably predisposed to want your attention when it's elsewhere, but not care about your attention if it's nowhere.
This, but always during an unpausable cutscene.
I use to wonder the same thing with the GF when it came to Zelda. It always seemed she was in a part of the game she couldn't pause.
One day she showed me the game play and I couldn't believe the amount of loading and dialog scenes that modern games sit through these days.
What she hasn’t told you is the Switch can go in sleep mode and pick up right where she left off at any time
Yeah, or just press the Home button to pause and game on any situation
Ha that I suspected but I'm the same way. I wanted to finish what I was in the middle of. Mind you there was no sleep mode on my Sega. At least with the emulators you can save state now.
And they come in and just start talking and don’t stop even if you try to explain you are watching that
Fuck unpausable cutscenes
…and the game doesn’t has a pause button.
There's an app for that!
It's called UniversalPauseButton (no link because on phone, but you can Google it). It basically makes the PAUSE/BREAK button pause any active process. Press it again to unpause.
Will likely cause issues with online games, but if you're playing offline or in single-player, like Witcher 3, Remnant, Baldurs Gate 3, etc it works wonders.
Signed, a new parent who often has to go comfort a waking baby at night.
I remember when I was a kid my buddy and I were raving about some game because you couldn't pause it. It was so cool. Emersive. You really had to make good decisions with you inventory, etc etc.
Today I'll just turn the game off if it tries that bullshit lol
The Witcher 3 NextGen has been pretty good in this regard. You can already pause in combat, or in long dialogue trees and even in cutscenes.
Link here: https://github.com/ryanries/UniversalPauseButton
There's also https://github.com/Merrit/nyrna
which supports linux, and I believe takes a slightly different approach on windows so where one app might not work for one game you could try the other
Wow thank you, I knew something like that existed but I thought it was a per game hack/mod not an universa solution. l
It instantly turns me off any game. Much of my free time for gaming on the weekends is really when I'm doing less active chores, like laundry. If I can't pause to change loads and fold, I can't play that game.
I play a lot of souls likes and most don't have pause. But they usually save your position if you go back to the main menu; so I pause by just quitting to the main menu.
This is my whole life.
I go out of my way to make sure everything is good and then start my game. Suddenly nothing is good haha.
Been trying to wake up two hours before everyone, everyone just started waking up two hours earlier lol.
I love my family though. I knew what I was getting into.
Baaaaabe?
Can you come hand me the remote that's 2" from my hand?
"I can't help with dinner, the dog has his head on my lap." "Well, sure, that's fine, honey. I just made a cat move off my lap because at least ONE of us has to be responsible."
This was me at my office anytime I sat down and put my headphones on.
Argh, I hate that.
Without fail, quiet night nobody around, open game to enjoy a nice casual session.
Discord beeps from someone needing help troubleshooting my software.
Every dang time
Your software? What do you make?
Haha nothing that exciting, and maybe even a stretch to call it "software"
Mostly just some python and jinja for klipper 3d printers and some guides and stuff for the same.
I've been working on a big project to add a lot of functionality through a python extension that is traditionally done somewhat manually with macros and jinja. The idea is to make it easier for new/inexperienced users to handle functions like filament runout/changes and preprint steps like heat soaking and generating a bed mesh on any printer without needing to understand jinja or gcode.
As someone with a 3D printer, thank you for your service.
I don't have issues with the things you've mentioned, but because less knowledgeable people have gotten into 3D printing, the market for such products is thriving, so I get to enjoy it because people who know less about it are doing it because of the efforts of people like you.
I appreciate it.
Aww thanks ♥️
Every god damn time. Whether it’s sitting down to work on something or to play a game, the wife needs something. Hell.. even my work is the same. It’s an easy job with random amounts of downtime but the moment I decide to start cleaning or just scroll lemmy on my phone suddenly everyone needs help.
Story of my life.
It is the worst thing. When you're not doing anything nobody needs you.
Conveniently enough (at least in this case) "everyone in my house" boils down to just me.
Me when my parents visit me randomly and want me to help with some random project.
