Mentally preparing myself for being locked in a closet with my drugged up dogs who will be a nervous wreck all night and it’s the only place in the house they feel safe in, but I also need to be in there for them to feel safe, and the sounds of the fireworks will be slightly muffled from there.
My dogs and I aren’t fans of the 4th of July.
My dog has fairly recently gone deaf, and the only tiny silver lining is that he’s been completely unfazed by the fireworks we’ve been getting for the past week around us. Good luck tonight!
Thanks! I feel that. My eldest pup is deaf and is no longer freaked out by any loud noises, but he picks up on the younger one’s anxiety. Luckily it’s just fireworks and not thunderstorms that frighten the young one so we only have to deal with this bullshit twice a year.
Somehow we got lucky. He wants the fireworks to play with.
My childhood dog thought the fireworks were monsters she needed to protect us from. We had to lock her inside because otherwise she'd go charging off towards the sound, barking her head off, fully planning to unleash 20 pounds of whoopass on them when she found them.
Ive never had to try it my self but ive heard having relaxing music playing loudly or even like thunderstorm soundtracks can help to mask the booms. Also a heavy blanket/vest wrapped around the dog really helps. I think its called a thunder blanket(?) but its like wrapping them in a constant hug. Ive also had a friend whos dog was prescribed puppy valium for fireworks because it was so bad for the dog.
When we first adopted Pippin, our youngest, he was terrified of thunder storms. He sleeps in bed with me so I began playing thunderstorm sounds and he learned pretty quickly that thunderstorms are no longer a scary thing.
With fireworks, though… we’ve tried everything (including the thunder jacket) and had to resort to meds. Even fireworks on tv or video games send him into a panic. It breaks my heart to seem him so afraid, but all I can do is provide him with a safe spot and snuggles…and puppy Valium.
I'll actually be at the esplanade in Boston to see the Boston Pops and Massachusetts National Guard perform my favorite musical instrument, the M198 155mm howitzer.
I love how the 1812 Overture was actually originally written as a patriotic anthem for a completely different country (Russia), but the moment us Americans found out it used a fricking howtizer as an instrument we decided there'd clearly been a mix-up somewhere, because this was obviously the most American song that had ever been written. Therefore, it's ours now, finders keepers losers weepers!
Da-da-da-DAAA-da-da-da-DAAA-DAAA-DAAAAAA!
BOOOM
Da-da-da-DAAA-da-da-da-DAAA-DAAA-DAAAAAA!
BOOOM
I've done that before, it's fun. Are you going to be in the hatch shell or by the water (or switch)?
I was at the hatch shell. It was a good thing too because fireworks were all obscured by clouds. You cannot really switch once the concert starts. It is not physically possible.
We switched once quickly during the last song and sprinted to our blanket, but it was hectic and I don't recommend it.
But yeah I saw the smoke on the livestream, barely any wind. Too bad. I hope you had fun the rest of the day.
Hoping for rain between the hours of 7pm to midnight. For context, we've been breathing in the smoke from the Canadian wildfires for weeks now.
4th July is of no note in the UK. Working, doing the same as any other day!
One of my favorite images…
Haha! Love it!
Right back at you, limey bastards
Smoking pork butt for the first time! I anticipate mediocre results but hey I've never done it before.
It's a forgiving cut of meat. You'll be fine.
Not from the US so juat a normal day. Work, eat, fuck, sleep.
Humble brag over here…not all of us get to sleep.
Right!? Not all of use have enough time to sleep with all the sex we have to do.
Lucky, some of us don't have time to fuck or sleep with all the eating we need to do to maintain our magnificent mass.
Hiking in Southern Utah with my dog to hopefully avoid fireworks! I love them but my dog is terrified lol
Just standard stuff, not from US so it's a day like any other. We have bank holiday tomorrow and overmorrow, that's when the real fun starts.
I'll be sipping tea in the middle of a wide open field wearing my ceremonial red coat. Seriously though, why are the British people in that film all played by aliens?
It's only a holiday in the US. Just a normal day for me
Well, it's a Tuesday so that means I can get fresh fish in my local street market. Nothing much going on otherwise.
Gonna be working in the cave today. Thirty degree weather, nearly 100% humidity, but damn if it ain't lovely in that cave.
Like an actual cave?
I'm gonna go to work
I put together an IKEA chair, cleaned the litter tray, did some crocheting, played Animal Crossing, gave the neighbour his parcel and will be heating up dinner soon. Why, something special going on?
I joined Lemmy. Other than that it was an unremarkable day.
Yesterday was a really busy day for me so I've just been taking it easy today. I did get some new tights though, that's always good.
Nothing special. It's a regular day in my not-US country.
Work then I’m gonna take a walk and watch fireworks around town. Then get online and look for firework accident videos
I don't know of any holiday today BUT I know the day of the banana is only eight days away on july 12th. 🤩
Just found out it's a moving holiday. It's on April 19th this year. So i missed it. 😭
I did nothing special, it's not a thing in NZ.
I’m packing my apartment. Or rather procrastinating packing my apartment.
Took down the gaming rig last night so there’s less to get in the way
Trying to keep my dogs from panicking at the fireworks.
I was thinking of going to the pool and showering, but I might be too sick for either.
Working for double pay, then barbecuing some steaks.
