I don't even think this is a joke. That's what Facebook is like. The people spreading actual bigoted animosity are fine as long as they don't use specific words. It's pathetic. I got banned for calling blatant homophobes pieces of shit, pretty sure the homophobes got off scot free

I got a temp ban on reddit for using “hateful speech” while being attacked for being gay. Those in power want to maintain power and are uninterested in fairness.

[–] TrickDacy 18 points 1 year ago

I'm sorry that happened to you. So shitty. I feel like they set these discrete rules because they want the easiest path to appearing fair and aren't interested in the actual result of those rules. Even if the result is that horrible bigots go unpunished while rightfully angered victims are the ones banned.

It's not just Facebook. It's fucking everywhere. I mentioned in a post comment that fag-got* is a food in the UK and it got auto censored. I had a post deleted for being "offensive" because I asked if the UK is the US of Europe. It was light hearted. Silly.

But no, every fucker is determined to be offended by everything. It's making commenting anything other than dry fact absolutely impossible. Sarcasm, banter, and even certain US-English words are outright banned even on non US sites and instances. Unalive, s*x, etc.

The internet has become fucking brain dead. Everything's covered in padding so children don't get a boo boo from naughty words. I've seen commentators reprimanded for replying to a kid with a swear word! "They're a minor, watch the language". Utterly fucking pathetic.

Where are the fucking adults? Or why are the adults so fucking precious? It wasn't like this in 2010. People actually had skin.

Which is ironic considering I'm gay and British so not only is fagot not offensive but "puff" is worse yet I don't demand people censor the fucking word! Do British instances censor spastic and Paki as much as the internet as a whole censors equivalent US English words?! American brain rot.

I joined Lemmy.ml since they were the creators. Thought it would be good to stick near the source. Bad choice—it’s made up of angry communists who attack you when you ask questions. Example: someone says they won’t vote for Biden and you ask what alternative they propose and then the personal attacks begin. It’s weird. I’m going to migrate elsewhere.

eeeeh complaining about people getting offended is kind of a right-wing dogwhistle..

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago (2 children)

And yet the right wing gets so offended about (*checks the picture up top*) making fun of cops.

Also:

  • Anything that mentions LGBTQ people
  • Anything that insults the US or its flag
  • Any religion that isn't Christianity

(Not an exhaustive list)

[–] cashews_best_nut 13 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I'm aware. Which is annoying as I'm a socialist liberal. I just want to be able to speak my mind without it being censored to hell and back by the cultural sensitives of a country an ocean away.

Woah

Just realized cocoa puffs is a slur against gay black folks. HOW IS THIS A CEREAL IN 2023?

/s

[–] TriPolarBearz 1 points 1 year ago

What about Fruity Pebbles?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's not pronounced puff, it's pronounced poof

[–] foggy 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure nobody is calling them cuckoo poofs my man

/dad

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago

I’m referring the the pronunciation of the slur for gay people, not the name of a kind of cereal.

[–] HappycamperNZ 4 points 1 year ago

Is "puff" like a play on "fag"?? Being British and all.

(And do you feel differently when someone asks you if they can bum a fag?? Always wanted to know)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I got banned for calling blatant homophobes pieces of shit

Similar can happen on Reddit, but on Reddit you can leave certain subreddits, or get banned in them and life moves on. However, Facebook is different breed. Facebook is like dedicated social network for those who are not accepted (and/or feeling unwelcome) by others in real life, so in Facebook you can find conspiracy theorists with the same ideas, boomers with the same ideas and racists with the same ideas.

So happy that I left facebook ~5 years ago.

[–] TrickDacy 4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Yeah. Facebook broke me in 2020. It was mostly antivaxxers, bigots, fascists, and conspiracy morons in every comment thread at that point. I couldn't continue on that platform. The pieces of shit running that company give zero fucks that they helped destroy civilization and they should be in prison for it, no exaggeration.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

same for reddit, I got banned for saying "fuck you" to a transphobe

[–] TrickDacy 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I don't doubt it. I feel like they almost enjoy making those types of decisions. It's so much easier to ask "is this sentence literally insulting?" Than to look at the context and judge the intent of the antagonist

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

I think it's just that redd*t is run by bigots

[–] diannetea 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I reported a dude posting an image that said "shoot your local heroin dealer"

They didn't do shit. I requested review. They still didn't do shit.

Guarantee if I posted one that said "lynch your local kkk member" I'd get banned

[–] TrickDacy 3 points 11 months ago

I have reported so many horrible assholes and I'm guessing only 20% of the time has anything been done about them. It's pathetic. Insult somebody though, it's the worst crime imaginable, even if they're hinting that Hitler was right or whatever...

They hated her, for she spoke the truth.

I have no clue who this shark is or what movie it's from, but for some reason I want to say it's voiced by Robert de Niro.

[–] YarHarSuperstar 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's Shark Tale and you're absolutely correct, for some reason.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean it was filmed with motion capture so it makes sense.

[–] RGB3x3 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

No it wasn't. It was DreamWorks' answer to Finding Nemo, all in CGI

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Do you know how motion capture works?

[–] RGB3x3 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I guess I misread that and thought you meant stop motion.

Either way, I looked it up and it's not MoCap. The animators just intentionally modeled the faces and mannerisms of the fish to the actors.

[–] RGB3x3 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That lists Matthew Broderick as Oscar... Pretty sure that was Will Smith...

Also, never thought I'd get into an online argument over Shark Tale. This has been fun

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001 1 points 11 months ago

I like to think of them less like arguments and more like aggressive sharing of information.

And fair. I really only skimmed the article where it said all the main actors names and motion capture.

Though I still feel like some mocap was used since mocap has been around since the 90's

[–] voidMainVoid 13 points 1 year ago

Where's the lie

[–] noobface 9 points 1 year ago

Regularly abusing HGH, minorities, and domestic partners is required to keep a badge and gun.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Needs more mustache.
