Give me a reason atheists can’t get frustrated about religion holding back society in the past?

Your proof of this?

[–] Demuniac 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

How about you answer my question first. Who are you to decide what it means to be an atheist.

And if you really need examples of that you should read up on human history before you continue any aspect of this discussion.

[–] masquenox -1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

How about you answer my question first

No, no, no - extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

If you want to blame the west's invention of white supremacism (for instance) on a Levantine carpenter's son that lived 2000 years ago you have your work cut out for you.

[–] Demuniac 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yes let the religious nutjob preach about extraordinary claims

[–] masquenox 0 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Why is it that every time I bring up white supremacy edgelord atheists start shrinking away like ice from a bonfire?

You are "rational" enough not to buy into "race science," aren't you?

[–] Demuniac 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yeah keep jerking yourself, all you do is prove the point of the post. You're so blinded by trying to be the smart cookie here you forget to actually participate in the discussion.

It has been fun though, you're good at reflecting.

[–] masquenox 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

So that's a "no-comment" on the whole "race science" thing, eh?

No surprises here.

[–] Demuniac 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

As I said, you haven't actually given an answer to any of my questions yet you somehow want me to respond to some incident that happened to some singular individual 2000 years ago that you read in this singular book of fiction that you happen to believe in.

So no, no comment on that, I for sure care less about that then you care about downvotes.

[–] masquenox 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

you haven’t actually given an answer to any of my questions

You mean... questions like these?

holding back society in the past?

You know... the ones you base on assumptions you can't back up with any proof?

I for sure care less about that then you

I'm starting to suspect that really none of you are truly atheists - it's more like you are simply edgelords trying your best to be the opposite of religious people by merely fetishizing the non-existence of (insert religious construct here).

If true... do you think this is wise?

[–] Demuniac 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

No, like how you get to decide what an atheist is. And here's a new one: can you make one singular response without any assumptions? Or have you read a history book anywhere in your life?

[–] masquenox 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

No, like how you get to decide what an atheist is.

Actually, at this point, I'm not even sure what an atheist looks like - considering that I can't even be sure that I've encountered any.

Or have you read a history book anywhere in your life?

Plenty. In fact, I've even browsed through some of the Greek classical stuff - you know, the works we only have thanks to Irish monks and Islamic scholars?

[–] Demuniac 1 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

It's funny, because yet again you find yourself in the position to define who is and is not an atheist. Hey guys we don't need a dictionary to dictate how I personally define my beliefs, just ask this guy.

Again, no answers, just reflections

*Edit, I'm sorry my bad, there was a response in there. Good that you know History. So you have plenty of examples of religion being abused by people to do evil. So now you're asking me for examples, except this whole thing started with an example straight out of the box.

[–] masquenox 0 points 7 months ago

Hey guys we don’t need a dictionary to dictate

Lol! You need a dictionary to "define" your personal feels?

That's disturbing... but not surprising.

Good that you know History.

So that makes one of us, then... despite your pretensions to the contrary.

So now you’re asking me for examples,

No, I'm asking you to back up your assumptions. Let's be perfectly clear about this... only one of us is basing their ideas on ahistorical assumptions.

[–] Demuniac 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

And why is white supremacy relevant in this discussion?

[–] masquenox 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

White supremacy puts the "west" in "western civilization" - do you not see your atheism as an expression of (so-called) "enlightenment" values? Lol!

There can be no discussion of liberal values without discussing liberalism's fundamental relationship with white supremacism - and guess where your ideas of atheism comes from?

[–] Demuniac 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You're the only one discussing liberal values here. But you go shout some more in your vacuum. I'm bored of you now.

[–] masquenox 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You’re the only one discussing liberal values

Your atheism only exists in liberalism-land, genius - unless you want to claim that your ideology was influenced by feudalism, perhaps?

[–] Demuniac 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

No it does not. My lack of faith in a god has nothing to do with an ideology, because I don't need it to define me as a person.

[–] masquenox 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

My lack of faith in a god has nothing to do with an ideology

Everything about you was birthed in a world drenched with liberal ideology - not even the Inuit and the Masaai gets to escape it's influence. And yes... it does define you as a person - whether you like it or not.

So - you were saying?

[–] Demuniac 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Does it matter? You twist everything to fit your narrative anyway so please take this comment and twist it once more.

[–] masquenox 0 points 7 months ago

Me situating your atheism - and every other belief you hold - within the fold of liberal ideology isn't me "twisting" anything. It's merely fact - what else are you supposed to be? Martian, maybe?

None of us gets to opt out of the world we were born into - but perhaps liberal consumerist "individualism" claptrap led you to believe that you could?
