Rules:
1. Be civil

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Supporting links can be added in comments or posted seperately but not to the post body.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source.
Posts which titles don’t match the source won’t be removed, but the autoMod will notify you, and if your title misrepresents the original article, the post will be deleted. If the site changed their headline, the bot might still contact you, just ignore it, we won’t delete your post.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials or celebrity gossip is allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis.
7. No duplicate posts.
If a source you used was already posted by someone else, the autoMod will leave a message. Please remove your post if the autoMod is correct. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners.
The auto mod will contact you if a link shortener is detected, please delete your post if they are right.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Have they given any reason why they did this? Seems like there needs to be a damned good reason for seizing the assets of the press
So. the article explains, briefly. The newspaper (Marion County Recorder,) peeps got into what's basically a pissing match with a local restaurant owner (Kari Newell) because said restaurant owner kicked the newspaper peeps out. They had "confidential" information, from a source, that they published, statign that the restaurant owner was driving illegally... she lost her license as the result of a DUI/DWI charge at somepoint and continued to be driving.
The cops were probably "looking for evidence" of the "Stolen" confidential files.
The issue here is that journalists are allowed to protect their sources and that courts/lawyers/cops are supposed to subpoena documents- a process where the journalist turns over the requested documents- as apposed to what they did: which was to get a warrant from the judge, and then conduct a search and seizure.
a large part of this is, in point of fact, that the journalists have done nothing wrong- receiving confidential information like this is not in fact illegal. it may have been illegal for whoever took it, but at this point they'd probably have an excellent justification for whistleblower status- because this entire affair strikes me as Small-Town-Corruption at it's finest.
(and lets be honest here. I doubt very much any of that was actually confidential. court records like convictions and such like are public information. and you have no expectation of privacy driving down the road. people can just follow you.)
the other issue is that with a warrant, you can only search things specifically cited in the warrant associated in the crime. clauses like "and anything else related to the crime that we happen to find" aren't allowed. if they genuinely seized everything... they over stepped and violated due process.
