The intent, Carney said during an interview on Rosemary Barton Live, is to invest in Canada's economy "at a time when we absolutely have to build as a country."

The taxpayer dollars would "catalyze many multiples of private dollars" to build homes, energy infrastructure, AI systems and trade corridors β€” "all of which are fundamentally necessary if we are going to grow this economy, irrespective of how President Trump is feeling on one day or another," Carney said.

Carney also said a federal government led by him would balance its operational spending β€” such as government-run programs, federal transfers to provinces and territories and debt service charges β€” over the course of the next three years.

I really, really want to believe this - but ever since my city's downtown core got locked down by people who weren't able to differentiate between federal and provincial jurisdictions, at the behest of people who originally claimed they wanted to overthrow the federal government, it's hard.

The appeal to nationalism that was present in that event does cut both ways, though. sigh Interesting times...

Anyone got a bead on what the right-wing meme machine is saying about the current affairs re: Canada right now? Most recent thing I saw was a Geordi Laforge meme comparing the tarrifs with the carbon tax.
