I got to pick one where I can legally live, and one that isn't going to force my daughter into a conversion therapy camp for being gay, which is what I am concerned with at the moment.
I'm not super full of national pride, but its not exactly a hell hole and on the plus side we've recently elected a party on the left while a good chunk of the other major European powers are shifting to the right. Need to get on top of this Reform nonsense, but I'm not seeing anyone rounding up LGBTQ folk.
Agreed. And every kid my daughter has met and talked to has been very much accepting. Unlike a lot of American kids.
Very generous description of Starmer's Labour!
There's some nationalisation going on, which is kinda left. Just isn't Corbyn's Labour, that's all.
They haven't banned conversion therapy either
Okay, where do you suggest I should have gone when I'm only a citizen of the US and the UK?
Let's hear your plan.
I didn't know the UK was the only European country where people aren't forced into conversion therapy. Also, I didn't know the UK was the only country where an American can legally live. Should I be reporting all my American gay expat friends to the government now?
You clearly didn't do your research when moving to Europe, and clearly have no clue on how other European countries are. The UK is not the most gay friendly of all European countries and finding work as an American is easy in many EU countries and can even have some massive tax benifits (20% tax reduction in NL for example). Many EU countries have fluent English speakers and loads of jobs where only English is no issue. While in the UK it's going pretty fucked up since they left the EU. But at least their food can be of as poor quality as US food, so aclimating might be easier. Just be careful when getting sick, free healthcare could be a massive culture shock.
I'm a UK citizen. I was able to legally get to the UK by getting on a plane.
How would you suggest I emigrate to one of those European countries when I don't even have a job?
Clearly I'm very stupid and you aren't, so give me the plan.
There are agencies which help with expats finding a job and housing. Also schools for kids etc. I know it exists here in NL, but also in Norway, Germany and probably much more countries.
There are many job offers for expats. Many companies are scouting. Again, through expat agencies you can get easier access to these job offers, but not exclusively.
Why didn't you say you're a UK citizen? So you're not a US citizen and you moved back to your country of origin? I can understand that, although I still would have checked other countries first since the current state of the UK isn't that attractive right now.
As a UK citizen I think it's even easier to live in an EU country then a US citizen.
Because informing you isn't his fucking job?
Here's a trick you can use the next time you talk to somebody:
"Hey, why did you pick the UK of all places? What do you mean it's the only place you can live legally?"
No, I am a dual national.
And your plan is for me to contact an agency, but you don't know what agency?
Cool. Get me one.
Oh, you think so.
I asked you for a plan. You've given me a bunch of vague and unhelpful shit after admonishing me for doing my best.
Hey, you're tasking me to get you a job right now. That's not how it works. I'm not saying you're not ding your best, I'm just pointing out your initial argument makes other European countries look like expats aren't welcome and we all force gay people into conversion therapy.
Yeah, because there are deals between the UK and EU to make working abroad simpler, so I think so, yeah.
I'm a national, I've never dealt with any. But expat friends did. A simple Google search led me to this:
NL:
https://www.expathelp.nl/
https://hollandexpatcenter.com/en/settling-in/
https://living-in-holland.nl/toolbox/
Norway:
https://www.expat.com/en/guide/europe/norway/

Germany:

https://expatra.com/germany/living-in-germany/

France:
Forget France. There is only one place with Nice people. Even if they speak English, they refuse to because of French pride. I'm partly joking ofc, but France wouldn't be my first pick if you're not a French speaker.
Just Google "expat help [country]" and you find loads of sources which can help. Countries love expats, there are too many jobs and too few workers.
No need to be so offensive mate.
Thanks for all the links and info. These are stressful times. Everyone needs to cut everyone a little slack. I think we’re all on the same side here.
Is the only place in France with nice people Nice?
We have a winner
Read your own fucking posts before you tell other people not to be offensive. Or did you forget you accused me of putting my child in danger because I'm stupid? Because I sure as fuck didn't.
Also, not one of those sites will give me a job right now or get me into those countries tomorrow. You admit you have no fucking clue what you're talking about, so how about shutting the fuck up?
I never said that. I would never. Please don't put words into my mouth.
Again, putting words in my mouth. Please don't. I never said that.
Dude. Chill out a bit. Your getting angry at things you imagine I said, which I never did. No need to curse. I'm going to leave this conversation now, I feel like I'm feeding a troll. Welcome back to Europe, please know you don't need to be so extremily angry all the time anymore. You're safe now. Have a nice day.
You absolutely did.
I said I brought my daughter to the UK for safety, and your response was:
And then I explained to you why I made my choice and you continued down that road with:
So yeah, you absolutely accused me of putting my daughter in danger because I'm stupid.
Just because you didn't literally use those words doesn't mean that's not what you said... and you must really think I'm stupid if you want me to believe otherwise.
So no, I won't chill out and I didn't imagine anything.
Good. I never wanted you in it to begin with.
Clearly English isn't your best language because you're putting words into my mouth. I said you didn't do research into other European countries as EU countries are not how you portray them to be: extremily anti gay and unwelcome to expats. How are you able to change that into me saying you've put your daughter into danger by moving to the UK? Your response is offensive, demanding me getting you a job. Wtf dude.
Right. Because I say the UK isn't too great economically since brexit, you change it to me saying you are putting your daughter in danger. If that's what you think, that's your imagination dude. Not my words.
I didn't.
It means exactly that I didn't say that. It means you only hear what you want to hear, not what was actually said. Stop putting words into my mouth.
This guy is toxic. Just disengage and stop feeding him. It will just keep going further downhill.
Remember one post ago when you said:
You shouldn't have lied about that.
And you insulted me again in this post with the "clearly English isn't your first language" thing when you know full well I am a US/UK dual national.
I'm sure you'll deny that's an insult too since your game seems to be insult, deny you're insulting, then insult some more.
Looking forward to more lies.
