Unironically didn't like this game because I couldn't customise my character. Like ffs a skill check for a tie? Really?
Get up now, grab one from the dresser and tie a full Windsor, one try, no YouTube tutorials.

Ok, but I'm pretty sure I won't die of a heart attack if I fail attempting to put on a tie, even if I am hungover and out of shape.
I tied one every day for my high school uniform.
You'd probably pass the check then. I wouldn't.
Good thing that skill check exists then I wouldn't want players to be able to complete mundane tasks without interrupting the flow of gameplay
What the fuck are you talking about you can't customize your character?
You can customize your starting stats. You can customize your outfit. You can even customize your Police style by saying enough things about communism, or apologizing a lot.
Not enough, I expect the Dark Souls character creator to be in every game I play. If my character has a nose and it doesn't look like a fucking battleaxe - is the game even worth playing?
(Yes, it is. I love Disco Elysium, I just love making horrific monstrosities too.)
To be fair, ~~Harry~~ Raphaël Ambrosius Costeau already does have a huge honker. :P
Harry is someone that already exists and has relationships in the world, usually those sorts or RPGs don't let you customize much. It's like Geralt or Link. But you do get to develop your personality more through dialogue.
As for the tie skill check, the rest of the game is better about saving skill checks for more difficult tasks. It's just there at the start to reinforce how much of a mess your character is. You can come back later when the negative modifiers clear and it's easier.
Idk I'm still not convinced I would enjoy the experience if I sunk more time in. Everything I did was sooooo tedious and hard to do. I got to the point where I have to get a guy's body out of a tree and just could not do it failing multiple times using multiple methods entirely arbitrarily. Like why set up some sort of crime I need to solve if I am going to not just hindered, but entirely blocked from taking the most basic of steps.
Fr I have never felt less agency while playing a video game. Let me do things damnit!

My first death in this game came from succumbing to a massive heart attack while trying to acquire/equip said tie.
Actually would've given me an aneurysm and caused me to die irl
