Oh good, I’m sure this time he will face consequences.
Legal proceedings take time. I've got an absolutely slam-fucking-dunk case going over my mother's estate mismanagement. My sister is screwed, but it's still taking over 2 years to get it done.
Yes, the rich can drag it out longer, but you might be surprised how it works for a garden-variety meth head. We should all spend a day sitting in our local court, see what goes on. Hell, I spent an evening watching sovcits get p0wned in court on YouTube. Could not believe what the judges put up with, the slack and delays allowed.
Last time I sat in court was an amazing experience. People got a slap on the wrist for their second parole violation (drug testing). I would have assumed one fail would land me in the hoosegow.
Best thing was the judge, young Hispanic man, and the DA, white GenXer with long, greasy hair. The judge was more than fair, very compassionate. The DA would not turn around to view the defendants, there could be no bias, went strictly off the paperwork and facts. He gave extraordinarily lenient recommendations to the judge. This was in small-town Florida, which lemmy thinks is a conservative hellscape.
Yes, I've sat in other courtrooms (Oklahoma), thinking, "Thank god I'm white." You can't appreciate privilege until you have an experience like that. But that was 30-years ago. I'd like to think things are better.
tl;dr: It's not as bad was we think, seems to be far improved.
Good for you, but yeah no. In some of our favorite red states they let you die in jail from bedbugs or dehydration before they even file charges. Srs.
