Welcome to /c/tumblr, a place for all your tumblr screenshots and news.

Our Rules:

  1. Keep it civil. We're all people here. Be respectful to one another.

  2. No sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia or any other flavor of bigotry. I should not need to explain this one.

  3. Must be tumblr related. This one is kind of a given.

  4. Try not to repost anything posted within the past month. Beyond that, go for it. Not everyone is on every site all the time.

  5. No unnecessary negativity. Just because you don't like a thing doesn't mean that you need to spend the entire comment section complaining about said thing. Just downvote and move on.

Ok this one is a bit out there, so stick with me. For the unitiated, tumblr is the depressed gay artists website that yahoo drove into the ground by banning porn [its core content creators] sexy starving artists etc etc. ive been on there like, more than 10 years, and im finally getting around to really scoping the place out. In the course of creating this space here on lemmy, the thought occurred: 'hey, these artists are in a rough spot, id love to commission work from them, have a backlog of stuff to do, but also I am in a very similar situation.' ... 'idea, find the artists that don't know what to draw, and just tell them the things id like to commission art of'. so that is how i got to perusing the #Art Block, tag on my favorite microblogging site. 10/10 can recommend.

TLDR what if we, go to the depressed gay artists site, and cheer them up a bit or something. Do you think they will drop art like a side quest? Yes 100% that is exactly how it works anyone can do it.

hmm..perhaps just pitching tumblr here a bit. its pretty straightforward. use reblogs like how you would likes and likes how you would bookmarks. talk to people if you want, #you can talk in the tags, #like this. make sure to change your profile picture right away. there is a bot problem.

WAIT. WAIT A SECOND. everybody take a few deep breaths okay. Delicate ecosystem.

Can I possibly interest you in the free art tag ,

#artists of tumblr ,

#original art , #small artist << these are much higher traffic tags. please do not kill and destroy the cool small tag i found.

I've been seeing a worrying number of these people on Lemmy lately, sharing enlightened takes including but not limited to "voting for Biden is tantamount to fascism" and "the concept of an assigned gender, or even an assigned name, at birth is transphobic" and none of them seem to be interested in reading more than the first sentence of any of my comments before writing a reply.

More often than not they reply with a concern I addressed in the comment they're replying to, without any explanation of why my argument was invalid. Some of them cannot even state their own position, instead simply repeatedly calling mine oppressive in some way.

It occurred to me just now that these interactions reminded me of nothing so much as an evangelical Christian I got into an argument with on Matrix a while ago, in which I met him 95% of the way, conceded that God might well be real and that being trans was sinful and tried to convince him not to tell that to every trans person he passed, and failed. I am 100% convinced he was trolling -- in retrospect I'm pretty sure I could've built a municipal transport system by letting people ride on top of his goalposts (that's what I get for picking a fight with a Christian at 2AM) -- and the only reason I'm not convinced these leftists on Lemmy are trolls is the sheer fucking number of them.

I made this post and what felt like half the responses fell into this category. Am I going insane?

Not because they think gay people are delicious (although they are). But because posts start off in one place then veer off wildly somewhere else until you really cannot work out where you are any more.

It has had a huge influence on my writing style -- the number of times I will start writing a post, or an answer, or something, then go off on a wild tangent that has nothing to do with the original topic, then realise I started off talking about love, then veered into setting people on fire, then went back to love, then went on to the topic of scary monsters creeping up behind you, then went back to love and I am pretty sure it is because of this.

Who would've thought tumblr was one of my biggest literary influences?
