If you buy a knife with as weird a name as Squidward, then you should probably get it in a color like purple. So that's just what I did.

Kizer tuned this one right. The jimping is not aggressive so you can fidget flip it without tearing up your thumb. Smooth action and it drops shut. 154CM steel. This is a fun carry.

My only real complaint is the pocket clip looks way out of place for this size/style of knife. I need to find something thinner/smaller and replace it.

Deal on Sencut Honoris $20 (self.pocketknife)

A couple days ago I asked about posting deals here and there were no objections so...

Two Sencut Honoris models are on sale at BladeHQ for only $20! https://www.bladehq.com/?search=Honoris

Budget knives for sure but for $20 that's a pretty great deal.

@[email protected] suggested we have a Weird Knife Wednesday.

(This should be for fun so please don't yuck anyone's weird. )

Turns out, I don't have too many "weird" knives. But here's a weird multitool.

I have no idea where it came from. It was gifted to me, possibly as a silly holiday stocking gift.

The hammer/pliers (pliemmers?) actually have a spring that sorta works. And also a tiny wire cutter in case you find yourself needing to cut, I don't know, maybe 28 gauge wire?

Knife blade and combo-flat head/cap lifter really round out this tool set. The key ring is standard size for a sense of scale.

Just amazing.

It's hard to pick a favorite of any knife but I really have been liking the Civivi Chevalier. The size is bigger than I usually carry but it doesn't feel like a big knife. The one thing I did do was to swap out the original pocket clip for the thinner titanium one. It eliminated a hot spot and, frankly, makes the knife look better IMHO even though it's no longer as deep a carry. For opening, flipper, button, and the groove for reverse-flick all work great. Action is very smooth.

I can't seem to attach pictures here. I'm getting a JSON error. Not sure if anyone else is getting an error too.

edit: I didn't realize I could just embed images in Lemmy posts. (still learning!)

Deal Posts? (self.pocketknife)

Are there any rules against posting links to legit deals on knives here? I don't want this to turn into a spam-fest/moderation nightmare and maybe there should just be a separate community for deals, but I am curious of other's opinions.

Don't @ me about my ratty Soviet era teacher's desk. I only have it because spent all my money on knives.

Bought it from microtechs shop in Mills River. Lady selling it kept saying it had "a poly peptic" finish. Turn out she was trying to say apocalyptic lol. Great knife, great action.

Been my EDC for about two years. Holds an edge well and all the mechanical parts are still tight. Recommend to anyone looking for a budget knife but not gas station knife. RAT II

For those in the US, today is National Knife Day! Happy slicing to all! To celebrate I'm carrying the first Benchmade I ever bought, the Mini Griptilian from the first year they offered it in S30V.

To me, the Rat 2 is a great example of a "gateway" knife. Something you can give as a gift or point people to as a way of saying "hey, there's more out there than cheap gas station knives that actually work!" The squared-off spine, while not comfortable for whittling, is sure useful in fire building and fire starting (and you can always round off part of it, if you'd like).

Nothing new here, for sure, just a post of appreciation for one of my first "real" knives I purchased.

Definitely not a hard working knife and has some paint chips, but at $27 the Samoir GP035 comes with a claimed D2 blade, titanium “deep enough” clip, and aluminum body. The samoir is roughly the same size as the crkt ceo but $20 cheaper and 1/3 lighter.

If you’re like me and feel naked without a knife but hate carrying in your basketball shorts during the summer heat, check this out. Worst case it’s $25 and makes a great drawer or purse knife.

My apologies: I'm fixing the post because the link is bad. I was working from the NY Times who owns Wirecutter, so I have no idea why their link is bad. They said 2023, but it is from 2021. Shenanigans.

I went to Wirecutter also and I'm posting a new link to that. It is an updated list, but still.

They didn't review pocket knives in 2023, but rather utility knives. Here's a link for that, if you're curious.

Trapper Knives

My cousins were a bunch of young country boys running around the hills with knives in their pockets. The kind with the bone handle. I never knew if it was real or plastic. That was the 70s, but I'm sure there are still plenty of kids doing the same today. It wasn't a weapon, just a handy tool to have on you. I wasn't gifted one because I was a girl (times change), but I found my own treasure one day on a hike when I found an old knife very similar to this. I think it was a knock off, but who cares. It was a good day.

Most folks who would stumble into a Pocketknife sub have a mental list of knives that would be great to add to the collection and I'm curious what is on other folks radar?

I am very picky about my collection and generally only get knives I will carry and use, so my list of options is always super short, but the one knife I am most excited for and (patiently?) waiting the next 6 months for is the Winter Blade Co. Factor B3. While I've never held one, I've seen enough videos of the previous versions to know that it will hit all my buttons (fidget-ey, carbon-ey, magna cut-ey).

So what do you want to add?

I have other fancier knives, but I will always love my little Swiss Army knife.

You can buy multiples for cheap on ebay with various company logos. I have them in useful spots all over the house and I always keep one in my car's door handle. I find myself using it all the time.

Get them new and drop them in stockings at Christmas time or wrap a box and keep it in your desk for forgotten coworker's birthdays, etc.

Fun, cheap, handy.

It's still early days here in the Fediverse, but I was surprised to see that there was no place to chat about our friend the pocket knife. So, PocketKNIFE is born!

Not knowing how all this will shake out, PocketKNIFE exists on both Lemmy.world and kbin.social, so feel to use one or the other, or both, whatever floats your boat.

Enjoy this new platform and let's all ave fun talking about our collections and our pokey little pals.
