Trapper Knives

My cousins were a bunch of young country boys running around the hills with knives in their pockets. The kind with the bone handle. I never knew if it was real or plastic. That was the 70s, but I'm sure there are still plenty of kids doing the same today. It wasn't a weapon, just a handy tool to have on you. I wasn't gifted one because I was a girl (times change), but I found my own treasure one day on a hike when I found an old knife very similar to this. I think it was a knock off, but who cares. It was a good day.

I found one of these at the thrift store a couple of years ago and polished it up, sharpened it, and made it as good as new. It must have been 50 years old, but with a little elbow grease it was as good as day one. They're neat little knives, even though they don't hold an edge very well.

That's funny. No, they don't, but I remember the cousins hacking at underbrush and I can't remember them ever sharpening them. Definitely a fun thing to have.
