As you know, Goodreads is owned by Amazon, so if you want an alternative in Europe here you hace a couple:

  • Bookwyrm (www.joinbookwyrm.com) is the fediverse federated books discovrery and communities alternative to Goodreads. There are many european instances, so you just have to search for one that covers your interests and join.

  • The StoryGraph (https://www.thestorygraph.com/) - It is headquartered in London, and isd a platform for discovering and reviewing books, with several social features.

Do you know other alternatives to Goodreads in Europe?

They are directly awful!!!

I know Afri Kola (not much, only have had it a couple of times in Germany) and Fritz Kola (moree common in other countries, delicious, also other flavours, orange and apple are very very good).

hehe I did not compile the list, just found it!! Thought it would be good to share here

This is a list with some european alternatives to Amazon and eBay, at least in part. It is oriented to small shops that would want to list its productos in them, but list the web of all of them.

Just one thing: the number 5, Rakuten PriceMinister, is not european animore because was bought by Rakuten, that is Japanese, but anyway, its origins are French I think.

What othe marketplaces and online multibrand shops do you know? I will add to this ones PCComponentes (www.pccomponentes.com), a Spanish Technology and Electronics one, that also has presence in Portugal, France, Italy and Germany. In Spain is quite big and well known.

A list of European services and products on Github, collaborative, meaning that you can add services there. Is even bigger in some categories than the one we have pinned here.

To products and services from the USA. You are right to point it, so I have edited the post to clarify

Trump has said that he is going to impose reciprocal tariffs... and he already considers European VAT a tariff. So we,d better start finding substitutes from Europe mainly to product and services from the USA..

Yes, twice a couple of years ago. I also have been to other cities but several years ago and I thought maybe it was a recent popular thing. And yes, nearly all the way from the airport to the hotel the roads were flanked with that kind of billboards.

Spain here, and both were turned on by default. Had to deactivate.

Many things. To say some...Billboards with lawyers advertising for things like demands after accidents. Like dozens one after another on the road.

So much sugar in everything. Last time I was there had to throw to the bin a yogurt. Was so sweet It was awful. Prices of "fresh" food.

Tips for everything. Going to a restaurant and have to tip like 20% of the bill, or even more, is crazy.

Wáter consumtion. Like big golf camps completely green in the middle of a desert (Vegas). When asked about It, people there just answered "no problem, we have the Hoover Dam for that".

Lack of public transport outside four or five big cities. And that just walking on the streets in some places is very strange fot the people living there. I was asked ten years ago in Palo Alto if I was Russian because I was not driving, just walking on the street!!

Sorry not sorry. Found another company that does not need to rob people and other companies to make money. Also: breaking the law should make this kind of people face grim consequences. But nothing will happen.

Reducing the time spent at work (insane in South Korea, more than 65 hours per week in many cases) seem not a problem for them. Also doesn,t seem to be a problem the insane cost in extra curricular classes children attend to there, a country where the majority of the children have to bear mad timetables,, with classes even finishing at 10PM at night. But again, women are to blame. And the solution is putting more pressure on them. Right. They are going to be very pleased with this, eager to have 6 children each and to spent a lot of his time like this. Sure.

Hi:

Don,t know if this is the appropriate community to ask this question, so sorry if it is not. Here it goes. I opened my account yesterday and tried to suscribe to several communities, inside lemmy.world as well as in other instances.

The ones within lemmy.world gave me no problem, subscribed instantly, buy the others are "pending", and I suppose that someone has to approve my subscription. Is there any other reason? None of the communities are in kbin or beehaw (I am aware of the defederation). Maybe it is because I am new to Lemmy and haven't posted yet except for one comment yesterday?
