Generated Summary:

Introduction and Guests

  • The podcast is hosted by Sabrina Salvati, who introduces the episode and its guests, former Seattle City Councilor Shama Sawant and former Green Party presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein.
  • This episode marks the first time both guests appear together on the show, setting the stage for a discussion on the recent presidential election and their collaborative efforts during the campaign.

Overview of the Presidential Election

  • The conversation begins with an analysis of the recent presidential election, highlighting significant events such as the incumbent president dropping out and Kamala Harris being selected as the Democratic nominee without a primary.
  • Shama Sawant, known for her activism and local political experience, discusses the unusual circumstances surrounding this election, including the notable absence of a Democratic primary and the return of former president Donald Trump.
  • The discussion emphasizes the low voter turnout, estimating that around eight million people did not vote, which is indicative of broader discontent among younger, working-class voters.

Voter Discontent and Political Engagement

  • Both guests share insights from their campaign experiences, noting the widespread frustration among voters regarding the political system and lack of representation for marginalized communities.
  • They highlight that many voters, particularly younger people and those of color, feel disenfranchised and are increasingly expressing their dissatisfaction by abstaining from voting.
  • The guests argue that the low turnout reflects a demand for systemic change rather than support for Donald Trump, who they assert does not have a true mandate from the electorate.

Issues Raised by Voters

  • The guests discuss specific issues raised by voters during the campaign, including the healthcare crisis, housing instability, and the general economic struggles faced by many Americans.
  • They cite alarming statistics, such as a significant number of deaths linked to lack of health insurance and the overwhelming burden of healthcare debt on individuals.
  • The conversation touches on the growing anger and desperation within the populace, evident in public support for extreme actions against corporate leaders and a desire for radical change in policy.

The Impact of Global Events

  • Shama Sawant addresses the impact of international issues, particularly the situation in Gaza, on voter sentiment in the U.S., noting that many voters cited foreign policy as a key reason for their disengagement from the electoral process.
  • Polls reveal that a significant portion of Biden voters from 2020 did not participate in the recent election, with many attributing their decision to the administration's stance on foreign conflicts.
  • The guests highlight the interconnectedness of domestic and foreign issues, emphasizing that economic hardship and international crises are perceived as linked by voters.

Challenges Faced by Third Parties

  • The discussion shifts to the challenges faced by third-party candidates like Jill Stein, who argue that the Democratic Party's tactics have systematically marginalized alternative voices in the political landscape.
  • Jill Stein discusses the disparity in media coverage compared to her 2016 campaign, noting that the lack of visibility and resources significantly impacted her ability to connect with voters in 2024.
  • The guests criticize the Democratic Party's efforts to suppress third-party candidates through legal and political maneuvers, which they argue stifles democratic engagement.

Upcoming Organizing Conference

  • The podcast transitions to discussing an upcoming organizing conference scheduled for February 22, 2025, in Seattle, aimed at mobilizing grassroots efforts for progressive change.
  • The conference will focus on strategies to combat corporate influence in politics, advocate for a $25 minimum wage, and push for Medicare for All at local and state levels.
  • Both guests encourage participation from anyone interested in building a movement that challenges the status quo and advocates for working-class interests.

Concluding Remarks on Political Strategy

  • The conversation concludes with a call to action for individuals to recognize their power and engage in organized efforts to demand systemic change, moving beyond traditional party politics.
  • They emphasize the importance of local activism, solidarity with marginalized communities, and the need for a united front against corporate greed and political corruption.
  • The guests express optimism about the potential for grassroots movements to effect change, urging listeners to take part in the upcoming conference and related initiatives.

We need to use our momentum from getting out the vote for Jill Stein's antiwar pro-worker campaign to fight the rich and their two parties. To end the wars and the genocide in Gaza. To fight against racism, sexism, and all forms of oppression. To organize protests and strike actions to win a $25/hour minimum wage, Medicare for All, quality affordable housing, and good union jobs for all.

Both Democrats and Republicans are a dead end for workers, the union movement, and the antiwar struggle. We urgently need a new, independent, antiwar, working-class party that can take on the billionaires & warmongers and BREAK the two-party system.

2024 Green Party presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein returns to Bad Faith for a two hour breakdown of what really happened on election day. She addresses the gap between CAIR poll estimates of Green Party vote turn out and post-election results, our country's inability to conduct ballot tracking, and whether the party will pursue a recount as they did in 2016. Moreover, Dr. Stein addresses pervasive criticism from the corporate center and the left, including concerns that the party is two "top town," lacking labor roots, and needs to be overhauled. Finally, what's next for the Greens?

At an election watch party in Dearborn, Michigan, Mohamed Hassan sits down with Green Party Presidential Candidate Jill Stein to talk about her campaign coalition with the Muslim and Arab communities, the attacks against her by the Democratic Party, and where the Green Party goes to from here.

Despite gaining momentum among left-leaning and Arab-American voters for her strong stances against Israel’s war in Gaza, Stein appears to have failed to break through the crucial 5% threshold required for her party to become eligible for campaign financing.

Instead, she describes the night as a "launch party" for the movement she hopes will spring from this election.

Donald Trump is on track to be president! Now do I get paid in rubles now, or do I just die in the Night of Long Knives 2: Electric Boogaloo?

I received my ballot a week ago and I couldn't bring myself to fill it out yet. I'm scared of another Trump presidency if that is what happens, but I can't keep supporting Democrats that have become what they claim to hate. I know if I vote for her that I'm sending a message that they can keep using the same playbook to move closer to fascism and corporatocracy.

They use their influence & power to eliminate opposition, and their donor money to astroturf social media. They censor other voices online, and spread lies about other people (Jill Stein) without evidence. They gaslight and claim you're fascist for telling the truth and blame others for their mistakes. They'll use your money to pay for genocide while turning a blind eye to help themselves, but make a thousand excused why they can't help you.

They don't deserve to win. Trump will be bad and I'm scared about what will happen if he wins, but you and I are not to blame. All they had to do was be truthful, transparent, empathetic and genuine—but their lust for power got in the way.

If Harris loses California, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Connecticut, Hawaii, Vermont, DC, or Maine-1 because of vote-splitting by Stein, it will be Harris's fault. If you're voting in these states, you might as well vote your heart.

Kamala Harris may not say "drill baby drill", but she does brag about expanding fracking and record oil production under the Biden-Harris administration.

The climate crisis, like so many of the world's problems, is a disaster brought to you by both Democrats and Republicans. -- Dr. Jill Stein

Antony Blinken approved Israel bombing aid trucks in Gaza, a war crime.

Blinken also lied to Congress about Israel deliberately starving Gaza - all to keep illegally arming the genocide.

We demand @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris remove @SecBlinken and stop arming Israel NOW! -- Dr. Jill Stein

As time ran out to evacuate before Hurricane Milton hits Florida, Disney World and Universal kept workers on the job. This should be illegal.

Abandon Harris Campaign Endorses Jill Stein and Butch Ware for 2024 Presidential Election

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

<Abandon Harris Campaign Endorses Jill Stein and Butch Ware for 2024 Presidential Election

(October 7, 2024)

In October 2023, under the darkening shadow of the U.S.-backed Israeli project of Palestinian annihilation, the Abandon Harris campaign-formerly Abandon Biden—was born. Our movement remains dedicated to ensuring that the American people, especially the Muslim-American community, recognize the responsibility we share in standing up against oppression and using all our power to stop genocide wherever it may arise.

We have consistently emphasized the importance of utilizing every available tool to resist injustice, with voting being a critical element. While voting alone is not the solution to our pursuit of truth and justice, it is a powerful tool that must be wielded ethically. As Claudia De la Cruz often reminds us, "Your vote is your consent." A vote is not just a political act; it is, more profoundly, a moral one. With this in mind, the Abandon Harris campaign officially endorses Dr. Jill Stein and her running mate, Dr. Butch Ware, for the 2024 presidential election.

We are not choosing between a greater evil and a lesser evil. We are confronting two destructive forces: one currently overseeing a genocide and another equally committed to continuing it. Both are determined to see it through. We call on Muslim-Americans and all those who stand firmly against genocide to vote for the Green Party in 2024. The path to justice is long, painful, and difficult, but it is ours to pave and follow.

Abandon Harris will hold a press conference on Wednesday, October 9, at the Henry Ford Centennial Library, 16301 Michigan Ave, Dearborn, MI 48126, at 12:30 PM EST.

@CallForCongress

The @DrJillStein @ButchWare presidential campaign, running as Green Party candidates in 2024, will be ON the ballot in 38 states totaling 439 Electoral College votes

For another 8 states plus DC we are write in candidates, adding 71 more Electoral College votes (510 total)

🚨This represents 95% of eligible voters!🚨

In only 4 states there is no ballot or write in option (IN, NV, OK, SD). **In NV we endorse and recommend None of the Above. If PSL or West are on in the other 3, we endorse

In the 8 write in states (DE, IA, IL, KS, ND, NY, VT, WY) and DC, write “Jill Stein and Rudolph Ware” in the space provided

For the 38 states we are on your printed ballot, many states DO NOT have Rudolph Ware as the vice president. ⭐️Don’t worry!⭐️ We had to use “filler” VP names (real people) because we didn’t have our convention until Aug 18 and that was past some state deadlines to withdraw the filler and replace with Rudolph (Butch). The votes will still be counted as Stein/Ware. There is the potential for confusion here so tell people: vote for Stein and it will be counted as Stein/Ware.

@DrJillStein

Today marks one year of war and genocide - but history didn't begin on October 7th, 2023. While the world has been watching in horror for the past year, that one year was preceded by generations of US-backed Israeli oppression of Palestinians.
