Hello all. I'm looking for an electrical apprenticeship or anything related around the electrical industry such as HVAC. I'm based in New Zealand.

To electrical employers, how would criminal convictions affect whether you would hire someone or not? I'm currently going through home detention and have completed a electrical pre-trade. Would you prefer a disclosure in the cover letter, during the interview or only if you brought it up?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi everyone and thank you in advance. My doorbell hasn’t been working and I opened it up today and noticed that the wires are still connected but it’s not hot. Can someone help me as to what the replacement wiring is? I am going to try to do this myself. The old wiring runs through into my garage, so I was hoping that I can just buy new wiring, and then tie it to the old wiring so that I can then pull the old wiring in the garage to then fish through the new wiring that way into the garage.

To preface, my wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December. There have been MANY hospital visits and surgeries since then, and the bills are starting to roll in. My health insurance is great, but there are still uncovered expenses.

I am a LU5 (Pittsburgh) journeyman w/ 20yrs experience. Ive already sold a lot of my possessionsto help, but it seems I'll need to start taking on side work. I'd like to go into it as safe as possible, so naturally insurance is a top priority. I was wondering if anyone can give me some insight as to what I'll need besides general liability.

LU5 by-laws prohibit me from having a non-union shop, so I would be doing business as myself (which is still "illegal" but screw it), but when I request a quote from, say, NEXT or State Farm, I'm required to insert a company name.

So, if anyone has been through this process, I humbly ask for your advice. I apologize for the long winded post. Stay safe, sparkies.

I went to change some outlets at a friend's house n seen that there wasn't a ground.....at least I thought. The Romex is grounded at the panel but the outlet that I opened had the grounds cut back to where the romex jacket is stripped. The tester shows a lot of other outlets with open grounds too, yet three pronged outlets were installed! I was able to complete the outlet by stripping back a little more jacket and pulling enough of the grounds out to get a wire-nut on em....not easy and want to use butt splices due to the limitations. What are your thoughts?

Hey guys,

I really want a career change and always wanted to go into electrician field. Being out here in Fresno, the programs I know are WECA & IBEW 100 also including Fresno city. I'm someone who doesn't have much experience in the field. I'm only 22(M) has a high school diploma and been working for a warehouse since 2019 when I graduated.

Any advice or information on where to start or what should I try to do to better my chances? I know, a test is required for both what should I use to study??? Books??

TIA!

I’m looking to replace my lower end Klein meter with something a little better that has an amp clamp as well. What’s everyone’s personal choices?

So I want to learn more about electrical work. I am not an electrician but I work on the safety side. Is there any courses you would suggest I take. Just to get a better understanding. I did take an OSHA course. But It just touched on the basic things of electrical work.

Been using this quiktape from southwire for 2 years now with a small 3k tugger. Its 2500-LB strength and was cheap ($150 canadian for 1000ft)

Looking for something stronger now the 9/16 double braided rope is $1,500 canadian for 16,000-LBs 600ft. 5/8 - $2,000

Any other recommendations? Pulling 4-600mcm AL in 4” Duct 6 parallel runs roughly 300 ft each

4-400mcm AL in 4” duct 4 parallel runs 600ft each

Thanks
