I had no idea we were the only state in the area without a bear hunting season!

Hello all you Nutmeggers! One of my favorite times of year is rapidly approaching, Ag Fair time! With various animal displays, old farming equipment and vastly delicious but unhealthy food there is something for everyone. https://www.ctagfairs.org/events/filters/iso=1

Has a list of upcoming fairs in calendar order, try and check a few out. I like the Bridgewater fair as it tends to be a little quieter than Goshen and Bethlehem. Come support your small town fair!

So, I just got my tax bill yesterday. It is just for my car as I don't own anything else. It isn't outrageous but I can't imagine what it must be like for other people in the state. Whatever happened to the push to eliminate car taxes?

In hopes of growing content, I'm making a post that we can all post links to our local news. Hopefully there's no paywall on them so let's do what we can.

Voices-covers a large area around Southbury/Woodbury/Roxbury local news and events, it's delivered free every Wednesday.

Bargain News the original place to buy or sell.

I ran a very small hiking sub over on Reddit, I don't feel the community here is big enough yet for a new instance so we'll just keep building CT up.

The DEEP has a pretty decent website that includes a list of all the state parks and forests with pdf trail maps.
https://portal.ct.gov/DEEP/State-Parks/Trail-and-Camping-Maps---CT-State-Parks-and-Forests

They also run a family friendly event every year called the Sky's The Limit Challenge where over the season you go and hike various state park and forest trails. Take a few pictures at key spots and send them in. Complete 10 of the 15 hikes and you earn a hiking medallion for your hiking stick. Complete all 15 and you're in a drawing for 1 of 50 hiking sticks. We have a beautiful state and you'll be amazed at what is available close by. Go check it out!

Surprised to find Bridgeport ranked as 41st best run.

I'm not doing this on the regular, but together we can come up with some ideas.

I'm not associated with any organization, if you have more stuff, post it in a reply. Personally I'm going to a concert in RI on Friday.

When do we make Connecticut smooth again? It's our freaking notch and we want it back, also Fishers Island too.

Hopefully this will spread quickly to the rest of CT.

I've been meaning to go to farmer's markets more for produce and to see what's out there, do you know where I can go for a good one? I'm in the Hartford area

Hey everyone! If you're here on Lemmy this early, there's a good chance you're into technology, either as a hobby or career. I wanted to make sure y'all knew about the local tech community I help run called New Haven IO.

We're a Discord/Meetup group for everyone into tech, programming, systems administration, and just about every other technology related thing you can think of. We're primarily an online group (there's a button on the front page of our website to join our Discord and we're slowly working on spinning up the in-person events again!

We're actively scheduling (monthly, or so) social hours at bars & food halls around the city and just started having weekly online coffee chats.

And while the group was originally built for folks working in and around New Haven, these days we have members living in several different states and working for companies all over the world! If you're interested in tech or work in a tech field and have some tenuous connection to the state of Connecticut, we'd love to have you!

Should you join, we just ask that you take a look through our code of conduct before you dive in. Hopefully we get to know some of you nutmeggers over on Discord!
