Post-surgery tip. (self.casualconversation)

If you get your gallbladder removed and your surgeon says it could cause diarrhea for a while but your discharge papers say take stool softener because of the pain medication? Listen to the surgeon.

It hasn't been a fun couple of days.

Thank you for reading my very short rant. Back to the bathroom!

Not looking for pity. But if you are having an awful December holiday, you aren't alone. This may be a chance to unload. I'll start.

My apt was flooded with rain 4 days ago, at ground level. For 4 days, my studio apt, carpet has been soaking wet, footsteps squishing, like stepping in a puddle. Property management wont do anything, hope I can talk sense into them before the floorboards rot and cave in.

You? It's OK, you're not alone.

2 years ago I had had a break down. I started having panic attacks and I would grind my teeth a bit. Eventually I shattered a tooth. Two years later and a root canal that tooth is causing issues due to an infection. I have a check up on it in a month. It's not really painful, but it's a grim reminder of all the issues I had.

I am a significant amount better than before. Meds and therapy helped a lot. But this tooth reminds me of a time where I was a wreck. It's not a fun feeling. And I don't know what happens next. I never got a tooth pulled for example, I don't know what to expect.

Has anyone beaten anxiety issues? Will I be like this forever?

Edit: Went to my dentist, they looked at it, they are sending me to a specialist tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Edit 2: got scheduled for surgery today, they think they can save the tooth.

Edit 3: Surgery was not that bad.

I was Reddit earlier and viewing one of question subs. The top 5 comments were all 'jokes'.

What's worse is no matter how unfunny the top jokes are you'll get hundreds of cold comments flogging the joke to death.

The 6th top comment actually answered the question.

Lemmy may not have as much content but what is here is so much better quality.

Personal identity has long been a topic of philosophical discussion and is clearly taking on an increasingly important role in the social sphere. I’m curious how you guys live and understand identity. I’ve thrown in a disparate list of food for thought intuitions that may or may not be useful.

  • The minimal set of properties that differentiate me from others.
  • An essence, a form, or a soul.
  • How I see myself in relation to others. Identity is largely internal but is impacted by how others receive me.
  • How others see me. Identity is largely external. What I ‘am’ to others.
  • The set of actions I take in the world. The impact I make. The things I create.
  • It’s whatever is thinking “me” or “I” at any given moment and there’s no persistent identity over time to unite those instances. It’s fleeting.

Hello everyone,

I left a western European country (think sunset at 16:30 in December) for a southern European country. I'm visiting my family for the holidays, and it just feels very strange to be back here.

I now live in a city, and the contrast with the urban sprawl in my previous country is almost jarring. Car dependency is also quite high, while I mostly walk around where I live now.

For people who experienced similar situations, did you find any way to deal with it? I'm only here for a few weeks, so it's fine, but I guess I just wanted to see if someone has any tip.

It also probably means I made a good decision to move where I live now.

I just imagined a world where for 10 years I told my child I loved them and then for them to within less than a year, stop responding and then actively shame you for doing so.

Fuck, I really wish my parents humanised themselves a bit more when I was younger. It took me far too long to rationalise that adults weren't different from me.

I do the NY Times Mini crossword (.5-2 min) and Connections (2-3 min). I sometimes do one of the puzzles featured on cracking the cryptic (up to ~90 min). I tried plusword a few times, but I just didn't get the clues most times. I used to do the set daily puzzle, but I got out of the habit. Wordle and similar never really caught on with me.

Fun coincidence. Makes me think of reincarnation. Now I wonder what else we shared?

So I came up with this while talking to a friend and immediately discarded it but the idea was still kinda funny to me.

People who grow up in chaotic households and dislike it/ calm households and like it tend to prefer minimalist aesthetics and design. Meanwhile people who grow up in calm households and dislike it/ chaotic households and like it tend to prefer maximalist aesthetics and design.

Yes it's stupid and reductive and probably not even a factor in taste. Infact people prefer one or the other style in different aspects too for eg minimalist clothing and maximalist interior design. And tastes change over time too, nevertheless smth about this idea just tickles my brain.

These are the same companies that don't support second factors, only have their app as a second factor, or only SMS second factor. Is it too much to ask for smart card or token (yubikey) support?
