https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20231113-bringing-back-californias-redwood-forests

There's a number of restoration projects on the West Coast, but one I've been really interested in is how they can induce the stumb and root system of cut down redwoods to send out suckers and can potentially bring their genetics back into the population. I love the chestnuts and elms, they are truly beautiful trees. The redwood groves are really special though.

We should be funding reforestation efforts like the new deal. Genetic resilience research, the works.

This and the American Elm restoration projects are some of the most exciting things to me—alongside Redwood sucker propagation!

Love seeing updates and hoping more and more chapters get set up to expand rapidly once the test orchards get approved to distribute stock!

Boondock Saints is trash.

Can't think of another movie I remember loving as a teen, and liking less as a grownup than this movie. Directing, plot, premise, are just as contrived as a film could be. One out of seven rating (and the one is only because of the rice).

It never actually caught on in the mainstream, but it was widely reported on. Kind of like the movement to rename french toast or any of the other manufactured outrages one finds on cable news here. It started after the French objected to the invasion of Iraq, but was only really in the media for a couple years at most.

Finally! Life begins at inflation, and the cops need to be punishing anyone who doesn't respect the sanctity of bblife.

Kids these days probably don't even remember cancelling ~~French~~ FREEDOM fries for the same reason.

Those Dixie Chicks met the same fate as Ellen once she came out officially. People who loved them for their music turned on them so hard...

Yeah but the rest of us aren't savages though..

Kidding, much love to the Aussies. Using fortnight unironically and eating Vegemite voluntarily.. you crazy emu-battlers are always up to something wild down there

Last.fm used to have a Pandora radio aspect to it, but lost the race with YouTube music, Spotify, etc.

The thing that last.fm had that made them unique is what they call scrobbling. Basically they kept track of what users were listening to and made links between user preferences that you can use to find new music. I mean they used to, and they still do too, but with far far fewer users. Think Spotify's year in review, but running constantly.

Honestly, it's pretty great. I still hop on from time to time, because it's a great way to find less well known bands. Makes me sad for when it was better used though..

Can you do me a quick favor?

I've never met anybody with this kind of access before, so could you punch the guy who decided to get rid of the little tabasco bottles in the face real hard?

Alternatively, (preferably both) if you run into the guy in the hallway carrying something hot, would you please trip him?

Thanks! -everyone in the army
