Makes sense to me

I thought George RR Martin invented the phrase "milk of the poppy" to describe apine/opium in his ASOIAF series. Never crossed my mind that he might have lifted it from a history textbook.

Would have been hilarious if big dairy brought them into the trial as an "expert witness".

"Yes, that's right ladies and gentlemen, I am a real life strawman."

French politics is always on the brink and the French public are almost always protesting. I'm not sure their revolution ever really stopped.

Do you count a mortgage as carrying debt? Seems pretty unavoidable to me.

Sadly, they'll probably call it 'Nilk' or something lazy like that

Obligatory Dark Souls nomination. It is an almost perfect depiction of the hero's journey with a captivating world filled with little moments of environmental story telling.

Runner up would be Metroid Prime 1 which similarly creates a very believable world you inhabit while playing.

It's weird how much they love UHT milk on the continent. If you get a Starbucks in France (not sure why you would) then it'll be that UHT shite.

She's turned the weans against ye, aye?

It's a budget puzzler with utilitarian (but charming) graphics. Probably not going to be GOTY for anyone but as a Godzilla fan I'd say it's a solid 8/10.

Seems to be PC-only at the moment but runs fine with Proton on Linux (with compatibility set to version 7).

Browse random websites found using alternative search engine marginalia.nu - personally gave me a pleasant flashback to stumbleupon. The search engine itself is fully open source and improving all the time.

Just bought a flat in an old tenament this year and we've been getting complaints from the shop downstairs about leaking coming in through the ceiling. It is not constant and appears to be intermittent but seems to roughly coincide with us doing laundry.

Have had Haggart Plumbers out twice but they don't think it is coming from our flat. The last time I turned on every appliance including the washing machine for 30 mins while the plumber waited downstairs with a step ladder but he could not identify any leaks coming from the flat.

My worry is that the issue only happens when we have longer laundry cycles. Would anyone be able to recommend a plumber who has helped out in a similar situation?

Being a first time buyer has been stressful enough without this but want to get it sorted.

A quick glance suggested that the lem package is a good option but I've been struggling to get it to work. When I launch it I put the username as @steeznson:lemmy.world but this returns a 404.

Can't find any docs after a quick google search and also struggling to track anything down in the emacs built in docs.

Lastly, unrelated, I wanted to shout out the emacs client for mastodon. It's great!
