I'll join :-)

Actually 2 reasons why. First and most important, this was needed so we can use tooling to detect and remove CSAM material. Secondly, it's because this is more cheap and scalable than having it on disk.

Well I'm the owner of lemmy.world, and I'm Dutch. But still I know what Thanksgiving is, and many users are from the US, so why not?

But I do agree we should also feature days like the Trans day of Remembrance. Maybe we could create a community-created list of special days?

Depends on what sort of invoices. For my invoices for billable hours, I use Kimai

I fixed that link, but actually lemmy.world/legal should redirect to legal.lemmy.world, which it apparently doesn't always do. So we'll look into that as well.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Ja, en we moeten ook eens wat meer posten hier (ik dus ook ;-) ) Interesse in mod?

[–] ruud 511 points 1 year ago

Yes, there has been quite a lot of trolls and attacks on our server, so we're very careful about who we let on the team. I'm sure you'll understand.

No. Just like now , they store the metadata there, the images are on disk or S3

Yeah we can upload pictures again!

Jerboa app and Lemmy 0.18 (self.lemmyworld)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by ruud to c/lemmyworld

The 0.18 version of Lemmy was announced. This will solve many issues.

But we can't upgrade yet because the captcha was removed, and captcha relied on Websockets, which are removed in 0.18 so despite the devs agreeing on my request to add captcha back, this will not be until 0.18.1. Without captcha we will be overrun by bots.

Hopefully this 0.18.1 will be released soon, because another issue is that the newest version of the Jerboa app won't work with servers older than 0.18. So if you're on Lemmy.world, please (temporarily) use another app or the web version.

Guidelines

  • First of all, every community on Lemmy.world should follow the lemmy.world rules
  • Please create a sidebar with some contents, at least a description of the community and some extra rules when applicable
  • Adding a banner and icon for the community makes it prettier. Please do.
  • Every community needs enough moderators.

About moderators

Moderation is very important. This site needs to be a safe place for everyone. The more subscribers and posts, the more moderators you'll need. Make sure you have moderators in all timezones, so if bad stuff is reported in your community, it doesn't need to sit there until you're off work... As the community grows, add even more moderators.

Reports

A moderator will receive reports for reported content in their community. (The admins will receive a copy of all reports in all communities). Please resolve the reports according to the site rules and community rules, as soon as possible. If reports are open for too long (more than 24 hours), the admins will contact the moderator(s). If this keeps happening, the moderators might be replaced.

These guidelines are under construction. Please check back after a few days, hopefully it's more complete ;-)

I don’t have much time for moderation; who would like to moderate this community? I think 2 mods would be enough for now, but they can also add more when needed.

Questions and issues can be posted in this community.

I wrote my fist post about Lemmy.world. When June is finished, I'll also include Lemmy in the financial update on the same blog.

So some spam signups just happened (all [email protected] format e-mail) This caused bounced mail to increase, causing Mailgun to block our domain to prevent it getting blacklisted.

So:

  • Mail temporarily doesn't work
  • I closed signups for now
  • I will ban the spam accounts
  • I will check how to prevent (maybe approval required again?)

Stay tuned.

Edit: so apparently there is a captcha option which I now enabled. Let's see if this prevents spam. Registrations open again.

Edit2 : Hmm Mailgun isn't that fast in unblocking the domain. Closing signups again because validation mails aren't sent

Edit 3: I convinced Mailgun to lift the block. Signups open again.
