Do you even know what that means? I am writing off this conversation as pointless.

It absolutely is not the correct response. LTT and GN are very public and the suggestion to take the conversation private is bad. There is no backroom conversation that can "fix" shitty data.
I agree with Linus taking accountability for publishing bad test results. That is a good thing. Talking shit about GN and refusing to walk back on that is bad. That is unprofessional.
They can do that! As a matter of fact, I support compliance with local regulations.
The problem is, they aren't. They are picking and choosing laws to follow. Their instance is located in Germany, but yet, their marijuana legalization laws are only in draft: https://www.forbes.com/sites/dariosabaghi/2023/07/10/germany-unveils-draft-bill-to-legalize-cannabis/?sh=5ed53b322726
They are using the justification that "some things are illegal in some countries" as grounds for community suspension, yet, they are picking and choosing.
It's illegal to talk about piracy and shrooms? I can see posts getting deleted for directly trafficking in pirated stuff or if someone was trying to openly sell sketchy drugs.
Anything that is allowed on this site could be a target for legal action. Even their unverified access to porn is grounds for legal action in most places.
You need to look at the complete picture of the bias that is involved.
accountability
Your point of reference is flipped. I don't need to take accountability for something that the admins are doing.
optics
Banning one community for being "illegal" while not banning another gives some fairly spectacular visuals.
You are totally missing the point, just like you missed the point in your last deleted post.
I think we all want to see most instances and communities thrive. With this being the most "mainstream" instance, it gives many users their first glimpse into Lemmy and the rest of the federation. If the first thing people see is the same shitty admin actions that Reddit was known for, they puts a huge damper on adaptation.
If the first few days are spent looking for an instance where their communities and comments won't get banned, it just makes for a shitty experience.
I have. I have also read their reasoning posts for some of their community bans. As a matter of fact, my last post about this is at the top of the support community and was made only when I only knew about the shrooms community takedown.
I think their only response is going to be is for them to dig in their heels. (And their happy little takedown messages were really shitty and drive that home, TBH.) So yeah, I am going to migrate to another "home" instance. This is kind of a pain as my profile history is getting fragmented across different instances.
While they can "do what they want" as admins, flexing on budding communities in bad faith is not a good way to retain a user base for very long.
Really, I do want to see all instances and communities thrive! Their methodology is not supporting that right now.
That would explain thier issues with piracy.
Which would prove my point. Lulz.
Hysterical spelling aside for a bit...
Deprogramming one cult with another seems counterproductive.
Unless I am misunderstanding, and that is not a difficult thing to accomplish, is that LTT knocked GN and another YouTuber about not testing with new hardware or something like that. It was during a LTT labs tour or something.
