FYI the JR pass is going to double in price in October. I've heard a lot of people say it will no longer be worth it for most people after that. I believe you can buy it just before the price increase and use it up to 3 months later, but that puts OP's trip just out of the range of being able to do that.
This is much more than just hate, though. He's saying nonsensical things, making random logical jumps, and more. He can be a bigot and have dementia, they aren't mutually exclusive.

One possibility I just thought of is the 24th century version of a vacuum tube system, but if that were the case I would expect them to be on key locations all over the ship (engineering, sick bay, the bridge, ready room, etc.) and I don't think there are any others shown on the ship.
That's actually not a bad thought. Some kind of special sample transporter is certainly a possibility. It would be easier to set up a containment field around the smaller platform.
To be fair, some companies seem to go out of their way when redesigning their software and websites to obfuscate basic features.
