Also shortly after, unrelatedly Trump begins claiming his personal wealth is exactly the missing amount higher than it used to be.

You just watch.

"Strategic crypto reserve" of several billion in taxpayer funds, and then in several months "oops where did it go? It's all been moved to several different wallets now, gosh how did this happen" and the news cycle will just glaze over it as another Trump blunder while he and his cronies pocket it.

The article says they were literally forced to comply with the request by Swiss Law as the request went through the proper legal channels.

They also only disclosed the accounts recovery email address. Everything else was obtained by Apple.

Why is reading sources so hard for people?

Because of its strong stated desire to return to an idealised past it is both. There's no need to split hairs.

Big whoosh because you missed the point of the comic.

Its not dunking on smarmy "I'm so intelligent" posts, it's dunking on the idea that you cannot advocate for change from within a system because you're hypocritically part of that system. Which is a common logical fallacy that conservatives love to fall for called the appeal to hypocrisy.

Yeah. This could probably go in an "US Politics" community for this ultra niche US stuff.

Nobody knows who TF this guy is so his opinion is pretty irrelevant on the world stage, and pretty low quality 'news' to begin with.

Anyone browsing on most mobile Lemmy apps does not see profile pics btw, so people might be downvoting because "she's very obviously a woman" is in fact not at all obvious to mobile users.

I did not downvote btw. Am using Eternity Lemmy client.

Builds in a very expensive replacement component too.

A control button breaks? New button is a (still over-inflated) $75 to replace.

A Tesla control screen breaks (and they do, just as often as buttons) - $1500.

To generalise, just as Reddit is the neolib centrist hivemind and Facebook is the conservative boomer hivemind, Lemmy is some overlap of privacy/techy/ultrapolitical groups - so whenever you get this kind of news that is ultimately pretty mild and uncontroversial to most you get lots of Lemmings buttons pushed and what seems like an oversized reaction in the comments.

Is Firefox perfect? No. Is it still the best available mainstream browser option? Yes. And if the small groups that presently use it walk away and its tiny market share (~5%) declines to a point where Firefox becomes insolvent - well then browsers will be just a two-horse race between Google (Chromium) and Apple (WebKit). Every web spec and page will be beholden to the desires of those companies - I'm sure the same Lemmings will be complaining about that too, and by then it will be too late to realize what they've lost.

If Trump's stupidity is an act then boy is he committed to the bit - because he's been dumb as a bag of rocks since grade school, through high school, college, and in every encounter with people close to him. Doesn't even turn it off for the wives or friends behind closed doors. Truly the greatest method actor of our times.

I dunno how you can draw a false equivalence between women fighting for their right to vote, and refusing to vote against an avowed fascist (who then won office), and keep a straight face.

Hi all.

First, thanks for reading. I'm not exactly sure if this is the correct location to raise a concern about a ban/deletion, but I guess it's as good as any.

So:

  1. I dont know which mod it was. Log is redacted?
  2. post deleted & banned from the [email protected] community
  3. screenshot of modlog attached
  4. screenshot of comment attached.
  5. It was an appreciated post with 106 upvotes 26 downvotes at deletion and several positive responses yesterday. When I came back today (I'm in Australia so timezones..) the comment was deleted and I was banned - and several negative comments have appeared which I would have liked to respond to.

Original post: a news article about Proton Mail.

My post: Essentially I took the time to read the article and included the quotes of what was written by the CEO that was being discussed in the article - as many in the comments had surprised me by jumping straight to him being a literal Nazi. As not a single other commenter had included the quotes to discuss the source, I thought that would be a valuable contribution. I also gave my opinions which you can see in the comment on the modlog, the formatting is messed up so I included a screenshot of the (recreated) comment. https://lemmy.world/modlog/1347

What I didn't notice was that the article writer had omitted the first part of the Twitter post from the CEO in her quotation of him - so I quoted her, and in doing so missed the context that the CEO had actually started "Great pick by @realDonaldTrump" at the start - which does of course change the context of his Twitter post to praise. This was clarified for me in the angry responses. I would have edited my comment and owned my mistake, however stood by the rest of the comment regarding Proton's official follow-up.

So, is that deletion and ban fair?

Update 10 hours later: contacted a mod directly to see if i can find out more about the ban or perhaps get it remedied.

Update 48 hours later: contacted the entire mod team, and got back feedback from several of them - all helpful. My post has now been undeleted, and my account unbanned from the News community 👍
