Can I charge a 19V laptop from multiple USB ports?

My laptop's charger is rated at 19V 2.1A. I was wondering if it would be possible to build an adapter which would allow me to charge it from a power bank, even if just slowly or via multiple USB ports.

I know you can buy adapters which utilise USB power delivery, but most outlets and powerbanks don't have PD yet.

No worries, I thought that's the whole point 😅

@DerpyPlayz18 They are not instant. I also don't feel comfortable giving my biometric data to some shady company just so I can unlock my phone.

@dunestorm @painfulasterisk It won't. The only way to escape #WhatsApp is using #Matrix with bridges.

@PuppyOSAndCoffee Probably nothing for a N900 but I've heard so much of it. I really should give it a try. How does Enlightenment run with older hardware? I'm talking 8-10 years old.

@Sentientted @CookieJarObserver The only gripe I have with the Pixel (4a in my case) is that the file system is so locked down, but that's just a modern Android thing. I wish I was able to change the default search engine but eh, can't complain.

I don't have a Pinephone personally, but #postmarketOS has come a long way and supposedly runs very well on recent hardware. Give it another 1-2 years and it will be rock solid for daily use.

@MonkderZweite Well, a window manager is for managing windows, right? So, having it also provide a list of windows to click on is resonable, in my opinion.

I should've added that I'm planning to run it on a Nokia N900 with 600 MHz and 256 MB RAM, both #XFCE and #LXDE are way too heavy for it. Also, most of their menus don't fit on the 800×480 pixel screen.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Honestly, that's all I want but stripped down so it can run on a system with 256 MB RAM.

@mvirts @chinstrap

I haven't looked too deep into what's possible with the config files of i3 or awesome. Maybe I should do that first. I just assumed they would be too keyboard focused. I want everything to be visible on screen, so you don't have to remember hotkeys.

I am once again considering to write my own window manager

...unless the setup I am thinking of is already possible, let me construct this in your head:

On the top of the screen, there is narrow status bar, which is split into two parts. On the right side of the bar, you have your clock, your battery, your signal strength and so on.

On the left side, there is a clickable tab for every window you have opened. It's like browser tabs: Every window always uses the entire space below the status bar.

On the far left, there could be an icon which opens a searchable list of applications, kind of like #dmenu but vertical. Everything supports mouse input as you would expect.

Does that exist? Should I make it? It would be awesome for smaller screens, like phones.

Edit: I should add that I'm planning to run it on a Nokia N900 with a single 600 MHz CPU core, 256 MB RAM and a resolution of 800×480 pixels. Existing full desktop environments like Xfce4, LXDE, and so on are way to heavy to run.

How does sleep really work in the Android kernel?

I've been wondering about this for a while, but couldn't find anything about it. What exactly happens after the screen turns off? Does the kernel actually suspend and halt the CPU? If so, how are notifications received while sleeping? Is there a coprocessor involved?

I'm curious. It would be great if someone could point me towards some articles or videos about this.

Is there a way to get notified, when an #ArchLinux package is updated?

Sometimes I'm eagerly awaiting an upgrade to a specific package. Is there a way to get a notification of some sort, once the update is available?

In this case I'm waiting for thunderbird and wine-nine.

Shouldn't elements from the master slide in LibreOffice Impress be locked from editing?

"Elements on a master page can only be changed from the master page view and are protected in the regular slide editing view." (OpenOffice)

...that's is the behavior I'm used to. But in Impress, all elements from the master slide are still editable in all individual slides. I keep accidentally moving them. Is this a setting?

Why exactly is deferred rendering faster?

The GPU is still doing the same work per pixel, isn't it?

Is it because there is less dependency chains as the buffers (albedo, normal, light, emission, ...) are independent?

I had a really nice #LinuxGaming moment last night

I finally formatted one of my 1 TB SSDs as EXT4 to make room for #Steam games on my #ArchLinux install.

Then, I installed Transport Fever 2 and played it through my #SteamLink

And you know what? It just worked. It was a miracle! I just happily played for an hour without even noticing I'm not running #Windows. Zero tinkering. Thanks #Valve. ☺

App for location based reminders/alarms?

I'm looking for a nice app that can trigger reminders or alarms when I reach a certain location or connect to a certain wifi network.

I tried "Wifi Reminders" on #FDroid
https://f-droid.org/packages/ru.glesik.wifireminders/ but it didn't work.

Ideally, it should be either open source or a one time purchase.

Thank you for any tips.

Okay #Plesk, I'm breaking up with you.

When I was new to #SysAdmin stuff, #Plesk helped me a lot with setting things up, especially email. But this is just stupid. I'm already paying for a server package that comes with Plesk, but it can't administer #PostgreSQL?

Fuck that. I'm leaving.

Any #OpenSource #FOSS alternatives? (Don't you dare to say #Docker 😠)

Why are the icons in the Android share menu ordered randomly?

Seriously, I don't get it. It's so annoying, every time I want to share something I have to scroll to find the same App again and again. Is there a reason for this?

Is this the right place for private servers?

I'm looking for a community like /r/wowservers to find other fellow "pirates" who like the original classic experience of WoW.
