I personally blocked all beehaw communities - not out of spite or anything, but I kept accidentally commenting on beehaw threads before realising I'm speaking to nobody.

If beehaw has their own reasons for being closed-off, that's their choice, but I wouldn't engage with them in that case.

I needed a world-news aggregator to help me get off that other site so I made one in c/[email protected]

First, "reaching out" is different from actually federating completely.

Second, i was referring to lemmy in particular. I know mastodon and lemmy are both part of the fediverse, but lemmy <> threads federation is a different conversation than mastodon <> threads.

*Two 19-year-old students and a man in his 50s were stabbed to death, and a further three people injured when a stolen van was driven into them, in an early morning rampage across Nottingham.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Counter-terror police were helping officers with their investigation but Nottinghamshire police insisted they were keeping an “open mind” about the motive.*

Thoughts on Android 12/13 UI and whitespace (self.android)

The Android 12/13 UI really grinds my gears. Excessive amounts of whitespace, and the notification shade has become "kiddified" - Turning off wifi/mobile data now takes 2 taps, the icons are all ridiculously big and takes up so much screen space, etc.

I personally don't like phones that are excessively big, because I use it a lot on my commutes. Screen real estate is valuable to me, and while whitespace has its uses, I think Android 12/13 went too far - it might work better on a tablet, but it sucks on a phone. I was really tempted by the Pixel, but ended up getting a Samsung partially because of this (One UI doesn't have the same bloated-whitespace look).

Am I the only one? Surely Google did user testing... didn't they?
