It pains me, I blame everyone else.

Okay, I actually find it somewhat refreshing and/or hilarious when a writer eats some humble pie about some narrative nonsense.

I have to admit, I didn't even notice this specific occurrence - by this point, it was kind of a layer cake of nonsense, which...is not unusual for RTD season finales.

This sounds a lot like a defense of the episode, but it's not meant to be, not really. I just don't mind this specific narrative cheat, I guess.

It's Star Trek all the way down, really.

All these years, and still no Pike City Pioneers uniforms. It ain't right.

But my takes will be lukewarm by then, at best...

"Star Wars? We have to visit them some day!"

Look, I'm not trying to choose violence today, so let's not stoop to the level of stereotypical "Star Wars" discourse.

That said, the parallels here were not lost on me, and I generally agree with RTD.

Brinley at S&P Global Mobility says the rise of SUVs is a reflection of consumers' desire to get greater utility out of their vehicles, which means the capacity to move more people and cargo.

Adams said when choosing a vehicle, most SUV buyers don't make their decision based on something that's going to satisfy "95 to 99 per cent" of their driving needs, which is commuting and running errands.

"They purchase their vehicle for the one weekend of the year when 'I tow my boat up to the lake and I want to make sure I can do that,'" he said, noting "it is ironic when they make that purchase and then complain about high gas prices."

At this point, I'm giving up on the linear channels, and am keeping my attention on the app.

Of course, the app doesn't seem to contain information about what's "coming soon," so the season might just...appear there one day.

As much as they've been talking up the possibility that the Doc would actively go searching for her, I just don't think that's his style. Or maybe it's not the show's style - IIRC, we were told he went looking for Gallifrey, but we were not shown.

I'll leave the storytelling to the pros, but I imagine he'll either stumble upon her by accident, or she'll find him (likely in the nick of time).

And it would seem downright criminal not to hire Carol Ann Ford to play her.

I will say, though, that I interpreted one of Ruby's references to "my real mum" as a reference to Carla. I think it might have been in episode seven, but I forget the details.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

For sure - that's a possible side-effect of the shorter season.

To be honest, as good as Millie Gibson has been, I don't feel like I've got a really good handle on Ruby as a character just yet, either.

Carla has been so supportive of Ruby's search for her birth mother - a real unsung hero of the season.

Yeah, there have already been photos featuring both Gibson and, Varada Sethu, so I'm not too worried.

It's been a while since we've had a companion who wasn't living in the TARDIS full-time, and RTD tends to focus on companions' home lives.

Everything so far has me convinced she's a Time Lord...unless literally everything is a red herring, which is always possible.

Season 1 has come to a close, and this community has enjoyed modest activity since it was created. I'd like to maintain that level of activity during the lengthy wait for the next special, and I have a couple of ideas and requests to make that happen:

  • I'd like to do weekly "retrospective discussions" to cover the Tennant specials, as well as "The Church on Ruby Road" and episodes 1 and 2 of the season (which we technically covered at c/quark's, but I'd like to have something "official" in this community as well). Please let me know if you'd be interested in this.

  • I'd like to see content covering the greater Whoniverse - Big Finish audios, books, comics, you name it. The trouble is, I'm not really engaged with that stuff personally, so this is my invitation to the community to build that stuff out.

  • Other community-led content is also welcome - I don't want this to become an exclusive meme community, but we should all feel free to have a little fun and share cool DW stuff.

I've also set up a section of the Star Trek: Website Wiki for this community - right now, it's just the archive of the episode discussions, but there's room for growth there, as well.

The so-called "intelligence to evidence" dilemma involves striking a balance between the need to shield sensitive intelligence and law enforcement's use of that information, along with the need to protect an accused's right to a fair trial.

Duheme added the RCMP has an "excellent relationship" with CSIS but the problems involved in using intelligence as evidence have plagued the two agencies for years.
