Get larger, firmer pillows?

Seriously. Ants are one of the few animals that pass the mirror test. It's not a huge leap to believe that a species that can recognize itself, is part of a large codependent social group, and is intent on remaining in that social group (as evidenced by the mirror test), would naturally be inclined toward empathy for its fellow ants.

That's when Abba won the Eurovision song contest with Waterloo. I mean, that's the important thing here.

Oh, and also the Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974, which made it illegal to discriminate based on gender, race, and a number of other things, which is exactly what I was talking about when I said that in my previous comment. "That's what got rectified in 1974."

[–] TheDoozer 3 points 4 days ago (3 children)

But the statement "women weren't allowed to get a bank account in the USA until 1974" is false. Women were allowed to. And banks, depending on the area, were allowed to deny them service merely for being women. That was the bad thing that got rectified in 1974.

The "women weren't allowed" is hyperbole at best, and lying at worst, to try to overemphasize what is already an injustice, and makes it easy for those that would argue with the general point being made by dismissing something that is clearly and demonstrably false. It hurts the argument.

And if the idea you are professing is that if even two women were denied access to bank accounts, then "women were not allowed to have bank accounts" was still true and accurate, then you (and the OP) are being deliberately misleading.

The reality is, it was shitty that it was legal and acceptable in the past to discriminate based on race, gender, or any of the other protected classes of today. It's bad enough as it was without suggesting "women weren't allowed to get bank accounts" or "black people weren't allowed to buy samdwiches" (because it was legal for a restaurant to deny service based on race).

Is that a reference to Lord Vorbis from Small Gods?

For some context, I am in the military and will be retiring in five years at the age of 47. So I won't need to work, but I want to find fun work that I want to do after. I think I'm the type that will wither and die within a year of retiring from any work. I'm not self-motivated enough to create work for myself, and I need to be doing something or I'll sleep 18 hours a day and feel useless the rest of the time. I need a schedule, and I need someone else to make it.

You'll never do what common people do.

Honestly, that sounds like some refreshing fun. Have the cook with a big grill out front, and putting in the order is just chatting with them.

"Hey, bud, you want a burger, hot dog, steak, or some of this brisket I been smoking since this morning? Want something to drink? There's beer and soda in the cooler, or we got tap water. The little cooler has juice for the little'uns."

And then have a cashier keep track of what they had, conveyor-belt sushi style. The cook chats with whoever is standing around drinking a beer with them (and is drinking beers or soda or whatever all shift), and everything gets served on paper plates. And the tables are all those wooden picnic tables with cheap plastic tablecloths.

And those who are eating there are encouraged to stand around and chat with other people as well (if they want). Just make the whole thing like a backyard barbecue with your neighbor Hank.

And hire nothing but retired men and women working part time as the cooks. Nothing but grill daddies and mommies, working just for some extra cash and the fun of barbecuing. I would take that job when I retired in an instant.

Edit: better yet, make it habachi-style, where there's a grill daddy/mommy for every group or two, set up like a park barbecue. I love this and want to go to one or work at one now.

I can't find anything that mentions they were fired. Do you have a source for that? That would be super messed up.

My dogs do love McDonalds. You might be on to something.

I wouldn't feed it to them because I love my dogs and want them to live at least relatively healthy. But they'd love it if I would.

They also usually rent out equipment, like carpet cleaners, post-hole diggers, large drain snakes, etc. And relatively cheap for the one time possibly in your lifetime you need to use it.

There have been thousands of far-right Americans who have, in some manner or another, been collaborating with Russia. It doesn't make it reasonable or appropriate for Russia to invade the US, another sovereign nation (like Ukraine).
