Funny how different the same company can appear to different people. My current printer from HP (maybe 2 or 3 years old) is the best I ever had. Sure, it offered a subscription for the ink, but after a quick calculation I knew that I would waste my money with that so I chose not to sign it. And now I have the first printer I've ever seen that answers "I don't care about yellow, the text is blank and white" with "okay" and starting to print.

I fully agree with you and decided to post that to give your downvoters an additional downwards-arrow to demonstrate even more that they don't read the EULA nor TOS before agreeing :-)

"mentioned in the image" was the part where you lost me. There is no offer, there are no contract details, it's just an ad. They have to give you details before you sign anything. You can't blame them if you didn't read the EULA and TOS before agreeing to it.

du schilderst da genau das Problem, das viele mit defederation von Instanzen haben. Und du hast völlig recht, wenn eine große Instanz auf Whitelist umstellt ist es wahrscheinlich für viele, als würde diese Instanz komplett wegbrechen. Aber je mehr aktive Mitglieder der Communities dadurch abgesägt werden, desto größer ist evtl auch die Hürde, auf ein Whitelist-System umzustellen. Ich persönlich wäre aber sowieso gegen Whitelisting, das fühlt sich wie das Gegenteil des Gedanken an, den ein dezentralisiertes Netz darstellt.

richtig. Der Kritikpunkt für einige ist, dass die Admins die sind, die über dieses Opt entscheiden (was aber auch deren Recht ist, ist ja deren Instanz). Und der Gegenvorschlag ist jetzt, dass jeder 'ne private Instanz anlegt, von der er seinen Kram erledigt, und die großen Instanzen quasi nur noch die Communities stellen.

die kleinen Instanzen sind ja nur für die User-Accounts und Feeds. Große Instanzen wie feddit, beehaw usw. steuern die Communities bei, und dank der Vernetzung, die ein dezentrales Netz eben auszeichnet, funktioniert die Kommunikation trotzdem einwandfrei.

It's not reddit. It's the pseudonymity of the internet. I've met people who just didn't understand they were talking to real people because they were just typing at their computers. I noticed that 20 years ago for the first time and it didn't really change over the years. the only thing one could blame reddit for is "being popular enough to attract idiots".

Grundsätzlich brauchst du nur eine Instanz von Lemmy zu finden, die so gestaltet ist, und nutzt dann halt die. Die Designs der Instanzen sind teilweise sehr unterschiedlich. Und wenn du keine findest, mach deine eigene auf (aber deaktiviere die Registrierung, sonst kann das ein teurer Spaß werden). Deine eigene kannst du ja gestalten, wie du möchtest.
