Making my way through FF16. According to the PS5 dashboard completion percentage I'm at about 70% complete right now. So I might be able to finish over the weekend, but having a six-year-old at home might make that harder to accomplish.

Either way, I'm really enjoying it despite it being absolutely archaic in terms of its actual game design. It's really carried by its presentation, soundtrack, and decent story. They've arguably stripped away too much of what typically defines a Final Fantasy game here, but I'm still having a great time by just choosing to appreciate what it does do well.

It's B all day. Close the polls because it ain't even close.

Daaamn. The lighting and thick atmosphere in this picture are sublime. I want to go there.

They absolutely did. So much more room for air/sound to flow through those speakers in CRTs. That's why most people resort to sound bars at a minimum to get halfway decent sound for today's flat panel televisions. You just can't fit powerful speakers into them.

I'm mainly just waiting for NintendoSwitchDeals and PS5Deals to become active to the point where they are at least half as useful as they were on the Old Site. I used to check those every day.

I also hope to see individual games and franchises getting their own dedicated communities on here eventually as well.

I've tried them all, and as of right now Connect feels the most polished and feature rich. So that's my recommendation.

Another hot tip: don't refer to people as "normies."

Nostalgia is really interesting in that it's inherently bittersweet. It's nice because it grounds us in a shared timeline and focuses on mostly positive aspects of some past point in time, but it's also sad because it means thinking back fondly on a time that will never be again.

So maybe it's the bitter half of that bittersweet feeling that you're subconsciously averse to? Either that or maybe your past/childhood was mostly negative or even traumatic? I'm no psychologist, so really I don't know what I'm talking about.

An empire that we lived in and got to experience when it was thriving. That's why dead malls in particular have a distinctly bittersweet feeling to them. Those of us who frequented malls in the 80's and 90's can vividly remember when they were filled with people, commerce, and social activity. They were such lively social spaces back then, so seeing them slowly succumb to the ravages of time and fade into irrelevancy is both sad and fascinating.

Nah. It's morbidly interesting IMO.

Do you like paying hundreds of dollars for a huge controller that you only use for a small handful of gaming genres? You do? Then this is the community for you!

Arcade Sticks/Fightsticks Community (Lemmy.World)

[email protected]

After subscribing, feel free to drop a pic of your arcade stick(s), custom artwork, mods, etc. Customization is half the fun with arcade sticks, so show them off.

Yep. Still have my black one with AmberElec installed. I love everything about it other than the display's somewhat muted colors and mediocre battery life.

We're so fucking cool, aren't we?

One of the reasons I chose to name this community Arcade Sticks rather than Fightsticks is because these controllers are great for more than just fighting games. Any game that has roots in arcades or otherwise features arcade-inspired gameplay can benefit from the precision and snappiness of a nice arcade stick (including modern leverless variants).

Personally, I tend to use mine a lot when playing bullet hell shmups on my PC. Pictured in this post is my beloved Qanba Q4RAF, which is IMO the best stick that Qanba ever put out. Hell, I'd argue it's the best commercially released stick ever, but that's probably worthy of another thread sometime in the near-future...

Figured I'd kick things off in this new community with a picture showing how my Madcatz TE2 (PS4) stick has evolved over the years.

I got the Guilty Gear Xrd version when it released many years ago, and it's still what I'm using today to play GG: Strive, Street Fighter 6, and all other PS4/PS4 fighting games.

It feels fitting to post this now, as it will likely be retired/replaced in the next month or so when my first leverless stick arrives (the 2023 Snack Box Micro). I'll be sure to post a picture of that as well once I get it customized with some new artwork.

Another Lemmy newbie question here.

I have subscribed to a small handful of Communities that live outside of Lemmy.world, and that worked easily enough. But I notice that when accessing them here rather than on their own servers they aren't quite in sync. Posts are in a different order or delayed when viewing them from Lemmy.world through my subscriptions, thumbnail images don't load, and the subscriber count in the sidebar is often much lower here than when viewing the Community on its host instance.

Is this intended behavior, a known issue with Lemmy, or something on my end?

This is my first day in the Fediverse, and I'm building out my sub list in Lemmy right now. I noticed that searching for Communities only looks within the instance that I'm logged into. Is there any easy way to search across all available Lemmy servers for Communities?
