It did work better with all Scotch to my palate, was thinking it would be too much but it's not, just pleasantly smoky slightly peaty pineapple whiskey sour.

Amending the recipe.

I have not one, but two bottles of Nixta that people gave me as gifts (it's no secret I like interesting liqueurs) and never thought about rum with it. May have to try that.

For front splits: Very deep lunges to stretch hip flexors, hamstring stretches, then get as close as you can, preferably supporting your crotch ('sit' on a small stool, then a yoga block, whatever supports you in the position) so that you can relax into the pose.

Best to do these after a workout while you are warm, then again before bed when you are cool, and go to your edge but not past it, that edge will move.

For straddle split, I don't know if everyone can get those but my nearly 60 year old husband can, and mostly he just lifts weights, so maybe. Those you can practice hot or cold, and if you do the widest you can and lean forward for 5 minutes it will also relax you for sleep. So good practice for bedtime.

Hmm I made the liqueur, sort of a yuzu-sake sweetened, and am very unsure about the sake in there. Too late to take it out now though. It's (the sake) one we've used with rhubarb liqueur so I thought it would be good in this.

I would like to say that the blender- infusion method rocks! Blended the zest with vodka, rested it overnight, strained, gorgeous.

Oh, not back to yesterday? Back to any time/place for a day?

I think it would be too hard to access any of these events or people - you'd go back then just end up in jail or something. I would like to see the moon though, so if it's a literal anything is possible situation I'll hitch along with those guys, on the first moon landing.

Oh, no I don't want to do that (have always felt uncomfortable about those). Thank you though, that makes sense.

Bourbon I like the Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond, it is cheap and delicious.

Amaretto, Lazzaroni is good and not overpriced.

Rum I will defer to someone else, except to say I do love the Venezuelan one called Diplomatico.

I lost one, sent the emails I might need to another account. So that was ok but I forgot to change the email on every freaking service I use so it was very difficult to recover some accounts.

I asked my kids if they knew what this image was (a bar near us used it on their outside decor) and nope, not even the one who is 30 now)

Well, technically I measure D (because bra sizing is whack) but yes. Because I don't need a bra, I can get any sort at all, they are more or less a decorative item, not an architectural support system.

But I used to be smaller and oh my God bras for truly small boobs are so hard to find, it's like the manufacturers have never seen a small bust. They scale EVERYTHING down, instead of making them have human proportions - they think if average boobs are like half grapefruits, then small boobs must be like half golf balls, but nobody is built like that.

Bad margaritas (self.cocktails)

As threatened, a post for the worst margaritas you have had.

As for me - one time we were returning to a hotel as the bar was closing, said "oh, you are closing?" and the guy behind the bar said "Oh, no, I can make you something, no problem!" Husband asks for beer, I request margarita. Employee gets out margarita mix & tequila, ok so far. Not great but he's closing I'm not gonna complain. Pours them in the shaker then gets out simple syrup and squirts it into the shaker for a solid 5 seconds - kept thinking he would stop, he did not stop, so much sugar. We paid because it was so nice of him to make us anything but it was absolutely undrinkable, literally 3/4 sugar. I can only guess maybe he was drunk himself.

Do you like savory cocktails? I don't like Bloody Marys (tomato juice) and don't like martini, but it seems like there should be something, somehow, that doesn't taste like gazpacho or a cup of straight booze and brine.

I like sweet/salty, like salted chocolate or caramel, like sour/salty in foods so much. Salt on margarita rim I can take or leave, good either way.

Maybe what I am looking for is not a straight up savory cocktail but something with a salt element and not very sweet. Any recommendations?

2 oz tequila blanco (Caralegre)

1oz Giffard Abricot

1oz lime

1/4tsp Amchur powder

1tsp lemon syrup

I do like green mango, and can perceive it in here. It made the color sort of muddy though, and did not incorporate completely, there was powder at the bottom of the glass. Tart at first sip, then the apricot and sweetness come through. The amchur is there at the finish. Tequila is lost, I don't taste it in here.

Notes:

I mixed the amchur with the apricot liqueur first & let it sit awhile, measured in the other ingredients and strained it into the shaker to catch any clumps of powder.

Lemon syrup was made by mixing squeezed lemon peels with sugar & letting it sit around for a few days, then straining out the resulting syrup.

The blanco tequila, again and again, in everything, is because I sent husband to the store with a picture of what I wanted (tequila reposada) and he came back with the right brand but the clear one. Which apparently is smooth as fuck because I can't really taste it in cocktails but it's a good supporting player, they've been good mixed drinks. Would buy again.

When we get the non alcoholic thread up I'll put my ferment recipes, it's really surprising what delicious no-to-low alcohol, non-intoxicating but complex tasting stuff you can get with short term fermentation of scraps, things you would have just thrown out. Like sourdough bread, it always feels kind of like magic.

Now - this particular drink doesn't sound delicious to me but fermented strawberries sure do. And the whole idea of getting fancy-ass food and drink from trash and magic is just awesome.

Not much of an article but great idea I will try this weekend. Amchur to acid adjust and add sour mango flavor.

This was a delightful read.

I always enjoyed the monthly contests on the r/cocktails. Nobody seems to participate in the synchronized Fridays, would that be better as a monthly thing? I will put my ideas in as comments, and anyone else please feel free to add an idea as a comment and upvote/downvote the ideas here, will leave this up until 2024.

(As a mod, what I'd like is tags! I don't want to require a recipe and picture here but want to be able to tag posts as "drink" if it has all that, or "review", or "meta" for something like this post!)

This is:

2 oz tequila Blanco

3/4 oz passionfruit liqueur

1/4 oz mezcal

Juice of half a lime

One dropperful of fire tincture

3 oz homemade lemonade

Because I accidentally bought a bag of lemons when I had a bag of lemons, made lemonade for the kids so this weekend for my fancy drinks it's been boozed up lemonade of different sorts. Yesterday with muddled blackberries and bourbon, today with tequila.

(Edited for recipe format)

The old southern cocktails like mint julep always crack me up. They are always a big cup of booze. I guess if I had to live in the past I'd not want to face it sober either.

I also found this old recipe amazing. Six ounces of rum & one whole muddled peach, mint leaves, not much else. The Thunderbolt

Rainy day appertif (lemmy.world)

While the supper finishes cooking.

1 oz limoncello

1oz Aperol

2 oz vodka

1 oz lemon

Trying to design something with Aperol and limoncello so just trying a simple mix first. Still a little too sweet even with so much lemon, and could use a little more bitter, but I will figure it out. Not tonight, this is definitely a one and done.

It's certainly beautiful.

Doubled the Campari as it seemed like cheating to use 1/2 ounce, and reduced the simple syrup because it didn't need that much - I stuck my finger in the mix before sweetening and debated using any but I think a little was right.

2 oz tequila

1oz Campari

Generous 1/2 oz each of grapefruit juice and lime juice

Spoonful of simple

Shaken with ice, strained directly into coupe.

My impressions - the first sip shockingly bitter but by third sip tastes good. Definitely Campari forward, the tequila is lost even though there is a lot in here. But it is balanced and I do like it.

What it makes me want to try is Campari, limoncello, and grapefruit with vodka and lemon.

If tomorrow is for challenging flavors, today is an easy easy completely unchallenging drink.

2 oz toasted coconut rum (Siesta Key)

2 oz pineapple juice (Lakewood Organic, I'm out of fresh pineapple)

1 oz unsweetened organic coconut milk from can

1 scant oz simple

1 scant oz lime juice

Shaken & strained over cracked ice. I am grateful the coconut milk did not curdle with the lime. It's delicious.
